Jelly cakes have been around for a while, but it doesn’t make it less delightful to see one up close and have the pleasure to find out that it’s as delicious as it is stunning.
This artisanal jelly cake I’m referring to is handcrafted by Sylvia Ramlal of Superbloom.SG. Check out their Instagram account and you’ll see that they are one of the best at making these floral-inspired jelly cakes.
The moment I opened the box, I was already inspired by the artistry. The cake (still in awe as I’m typing this) consists of three layers ─ a transparent layer, followed by lavender and a dark purple base. Upon further research, I learned that the ethereal flowers are actually made of coconut cream, and are injected into the first konjac jelly base with various changeable tips to make different textures. They are then covered with two layers at the bottom to cover the holes.
Each petal was individually injected and layered on, thereby giving us an optical illusion that these are multiple roses bound by resin! It was so intricately made, I had to stare at it for a long time before I decided to taste the cake. It was almost too beautiful to eat!
As for the taste, since the cake is made up of mainly konjac jelly and coconut cream, apart from a slight hint of coconut flavour from the flowers, the cake has a very prominent taste of longan. It is definitely more refreshing and less surfeiting than conventional cream cakes.
This cake would definitely be perfect as a gift, especially for those who are not into cream cakes and the elderly. Mother’s Day is coming, and this is something that would definitely impress your mum or your mum-in-law!
The intricate and hyper-realistic design will definitely blow your mind, as much as it had blown mine.
Each cake starts from $48, and varies based on the size as well as the design. If you have a certain idea in mind, customisations are opened as well.
