So, I called my friend who also has 2 kids and arranged to meet them on the island at the start of the school holidays. The kids had gone to preschool together, and it would be nice for them to catch up.
This holiday, Storytelling Comes Alive! is featuring classic tales; Goldilocks & The Three Bears, Jack & the Beanstalk and The Enormous Turnip. On top of the ‘Tasty’ tales, there are many interactive workshops for the kids to tap into their creative juices too!
It was a sunny day when we left our home, so make sure you pack your sun block, hat, sunglasses and beach gear. Bring lots of water to rehydrate and snacks to fill the little tummies along the way. Not to worry if you forgot anything as there are plenty of retail and F&B outlets / kiosks that you can get your supplies from.
Experience the fun at Storytelling Comes Alive!
Driving into the island was a breeze. Island admission per car is at $6 (weekday) and $7 (weekend).
For parents who are not driving, you can take the Sentosa Express from Vivo City, Level 3 (Lobby L), island admission is at $3 per person.
‘Storytelling Comes Alive’ take place at the Imbiah Lookout (in the courtyard of Images of Singapore). The storytelling sessions are at 11:30am, 2:30pm & 5pm (Wed – Sun). See Goldilocks, Jack, the Farmer or the many other characters ‘come alive’ from the giant story book! Listen and watch as the storyteller narrates and flips the giant book unveiling the adventure. Your little ones can even participate by being part of the story! Remember to take photos with your favourite characters at the end of the story session too!
Our kids participated in the cookie baking workshop (12pm – 2pm daily) conducted by Sentosa’s very own Chef! They had a great time kneading the dough and decorating their cookies in unique designs. While waiting for the cookies to bake, the kids tried their hands at making their own Kids’ Apron or designing their own sock puppets. The fee for each activity is $8, but it is FREE for Sentosa PLAY Pass holders and 50% for Islander members.
On weekdays at 12:15pm, you may also catch Sentosa professional storytellers sharing tips with parents on how to read to your child in a fun and creative way (FREE). You can also learn to liven up your stories with fun characters through a variety of puppet techniques at the FREE Puppet workshop (every Mon, Wed & Fri at 5:45pm)
In addition, every Sat and Sun, get tips from dieticians and nutritionists on how to transform nutritious food into fun appealing bits for your kids at the Healthilicious Workshop & Caricature session for Kids & Parents (3:15pm), brought to you by Health Promotion Board. This is also FREE.
Fun time at the beach
After an enjoyable story session and fun-filled workshop, we headed to the beach. The beach is a good 10 minutes stroll away from Beach Station. You can also hop on to the tram to either Siloso beach or Palawan beach. The kids will love the tram rides to and fro the beaches.
We headed to Palawan Beach where the water play features awaits our eager children. As it had started to rain, we decided to have a snack at the Koufu food court while waiting for the rain to pass. The rain did not deter our children as they played happily among the water features. And they were delighted to see Captain Palawan who taught them the Palawan Beach cheer (11:30am, 3pm & 5pm daily except Mon).
Other activities on the island
You can also head across to the Animal & Bird Encounters at Palawan Beach (open daily and FREE), or take a guided tour at Sentosa Nature Discovery (2:30pm & 4:30pm) or visit Fort Siloso ($14/adult, $11/child 3 – 12 years old, inclusive of Fort Siloso History Passport). You may even wish to round up the day with a spectacular pyrotechnic display from Songs of the Sea (7:40pm & 8:40pm daily, $10/standard, $15/premium).
For us, the kids were contented with the Storytelling, the workshop, playing in the rain and seeing Captain Palawan. We’ll just have to return another day for the rest.
