“I told my son to run away. He didn’t. Instead he dragged me behind his back.”
These are the words of a heartbroken mother after her son died, while trying to save her from thieves.
“I saw that man stab my boy several times. My boy fell down with his hands touching his heart.”
Heroic Son Saved His Mother's Life
This sad news was reported in South China Morning Post (SCMP), and happened on 8 Sep 2018, in Hebei province, northern China.
Apparently the mum, who runs a grocery store, would go to the market regularly to get vegetables and meat. She would usually carry around 2,000 yuan (approximately SGD 400) of cash in her bag.
On the ill-fated day, the mother had asked her 23-year-old son to accompany her to the market early in the morning fearing bag snatchers. She thought, "Bag snatchers only target women and I won’t feel afraid with my son there.” She was especially nervous after being threatened by a thief recently.
That Saturday, her son was waiting for her inside the car, while she shopped. On her way back to the vehicle, a man tried to grab her bag.
The mum ran towards the car with the thief in hot pursuit. Seeing what was happening, her son got out of the car and pushed the thief away.
Tragic Ending
Not to be defeated that easily, the thief brandished a knife and threatened them again.
The son instinctively shielded his mum and pulled her behind him. What happened next though, was tragic.
The mum said, "I told my son to run away. He didn’t. Instead he dragged me behind his back.
“My boy never fought with others before. He didn’t hide himself and just stood in front of me to protect me.
“I saw that man stab my boy several times. My boy fell down with his hands touching his heart.”
This son sacrificed his own life to save his mother. He is survived by his wife and two-year-old daughter.
The public has now come forward to help his wife and child. So far, they have raised around 2,000 yuan.
