Skin-tastic!: Easy 2-ingredient face masks and scrubs to try at home

No time to go to the spa or to the derma? No problem, as you can treat yourself to a little skin pampering at home with these time-saving, 2-ingredient face masks and scrubs.

Once the kids are at school and the hubby is away at the office, whip out these homemade delights and enjoy a relaxing afternoon, listening to your favorite music with mocktail in hand.

Here are 7 of our favorite easy - and effective! - face masks and scrubs you can make at home.

Cherry Tomato Delight: Tomato + Milk

Cherry Tomato Delight: Tomato + Milk

Effect: Bright skin and healthy, pinkish glow

Tomato, which is packed with health-protective antioxidants such as lycopene, vitamin C, and vitamin A, is great for the skin. In fact, we’ve heard of people rubbing tomato peels on their cheeks for a subdued cherry glow. Instant blush!

To brighten instantly your skin, whiz 1 tomato and 2 tablespoons of milk in a blender. Apply the gummy mixture onto your face. Then after 20 minutes, gently rinse it off. Fresh and rejuvenated. Enjoy your new pinkish glow.

Perk Me Up: Coffee + Honey

Perk Me Up: Coffee + Honey

Effect: Energized and moisturized skin

Your morning brew can now be your nighttime treat! Mix 2 teaspoons of coffee with equal amounts of honey, and spread this deliciously scented and extremely luxurious "cream" onto your face.

The coffee grounds will help in exfoliating your skin and in reducing redness, while the honey locks in the moisture for extremely supple skin. Do this twice a week and enjoy fabulous results!

Goodbye Blackheads: Egg white + Lemon juice

Goodbye Blackheads: Egg white + Lemon juice

Effect: Removes blackheads

More than pimples, people abhor blackheads. And blackheads are really tricky to remove if you don’t go to a dermatologist. To remove shallow ones, however, there is a simple solution  - 1 egg white and 1 teaspoon lemon juice.

Blend these two ingredients together, then apply it to your face. In a few minutes, the mixture will dry into a thin film. You can then gently peel off the natural "nose strip." Enjoy the added benefit of tightened skin.

Scrub-tastic: Yogurt + Oatmeal

Scrub-tastic: Yogurt + Oatmeal

Effect: Deep cleansing and exfoliation

Not into commercial scrubs and facial washes? Here’s an organic scrub that gives you more by using less. Simply mix together 2 tablespoons of yogurt and 1 tablespoon oatmeal for a gentle face scrub. If your oatmeal is a little rough, let it soften in the yogurt before applying it onto your face.

After about 20 minutes (when it begins to get crusty), gently wash it off with warm water. Enjoy velvety, smooth skin!

Citrus Secret: Lemon juice + Honey

Citrus Secret: Lemon juice + Honey

Effect: Clear, bright skin

When we were younger, our mothers used to tell us to scrub our knees and elbows with a slice of lemon and calamansi, as both can help whiten and exfoliate skin. And our mothers were right!

Use these with a little honey for an effective face mask that's really effective in "waking up" tired pores. Mix 1 teaspoon of lemon juice (or calamansi) with 2 teaspoons of honey. Then gently smooth onto your face. Let it sit for a couple of minutes, before washing it off with cold water.

Feel that citrusy zing of freshness!

Two for One: Turmeric + Coconut Oil

Two for One: Turmeric + Coconut Oil

Effect: Moisturized, flawless skin

As island people, we know the miraculous benefits of coconut oil, which includes awesome hydrating powers and anti-microbial properties! Turmeric, on the other hand, is an excellent exfoliating agent, which helps prevent the signs of skin aging.

Blend these two super ingredients together – ¼ teaspoon turmeric and 1 tablespoon coconut oil - and you have an extremely effective face scrub.

Tip: You can use coconut oil as an equally effective makeup remover.

Sweet Treat: Cinnamon + Honey

Sweet Treat: Cinnamon + Honey

Effect: Clear, acne-free skin

Say goodbye to breakouts with this all-natural face mask made from cinnamon and honey. Honey is a well-known antibacterial and anti-inflammatory so it takes care of the germs that cause pimples, as well as soothes any redness and swelling.

Mix 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder with 2 tablespoons honey for a sweet, subtly scented mask.

Cinnamon, in large quantities, may cause a slight burning sensation, so if this does happen, just add more honey.

Truffle delight: Cocoa Powder + Coconut Oil

Truffle delight: Cocoa Powder + Coconut Oil

Effect: Smooth, supple skin

Do you have a sweet tooth for chocolate? Now, we have something that not only your tummy will love, but your skin as well. And it’s oh so luxurious. We promise you, you won’t gain a pound!

Mix 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (finer grain) with 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, and blend until creamy. Then apply accordingly.

There are so many things to love about chocolate, but now we can add a few more reasons to our list. Cocoa powder is rich in antioxidants, it helps fight skin ageing, prevents blemishes, and promotes collagen production for tighter skin.

Eye Spy: Cucumber + Honey

Eye Spy: Cucumber + Honey

Effect: Reduce puffiness

The eyes have it! Fade dark under eye circles and soothe puffy eyes with this well-known skin trick.

Slice the cucumber and dip it in honey before placing it over your eyes. Let it sit for a good 20 minutes before removing and washing your face. If you’d like, you can also mush this all together and apply as a facial mask.

Enjoy more refreshed and incredibly supple skin.

Prime Pulp: Papaya + Lemon

Prime Pulp: Papaya + Lemon

Effect: Clear complexion

As you’ve learned from the many commercials aired on TV, papaya is the new wonder ingredient that helps in brightening and whitening skin. And you can harness its potent power at home.

Mush a ripe papaya into a pulp, then squeeze half a lemon. Blend everything beautifully together, and then apply to your face.

You can try doing this in the morning and enjoy smelling fruity and feeling refreshed the rest of the day.
