The LTA’s recent acquisition includes 360 single-decker electric buses, each equipped with a range of modern features designed to enhance the passenger experience.
Moreover, these features include a passenger information display system, an integrated CCTV collision warning system, a driver anti-fatigue system, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Among the new additions, 240 buses will be the B12 model from Chinese automaker BYD, while the remaining 120 will be sourced from Cycle & Carriage Automotive, in partnership with Chinese bus manufacturing company Zhongtong Bus.

To support this growing fleet of electric buses, the LTA has also invested S$46.1 million in EV charging systems. These “smart” systems will deploy at bus depots at Sengkang West, East Coast, and Gali Batu. The systems are designed to optimize charging speeds and duration, providing real-time monitoring, diagnostic, control, and reporting capabilities.

The introduction of these new electric buses is just the beginning. Additionally, starting in December 2024, these buses will gradually replace diesel buses that are reaching the end of their statutory lifespan.
Furthermore, this purchase marks the initiation of the first batch of large-scale tenders. Moreover, the government aims to have half of Singapore’s public bus fleet powered by batteries by 2030 and fully electric by 2040.
It’s important to note that Singapore introduced the first electric buses in 2020, marking a significant leap forward in a relatively short period.
