Lombok International Airport and Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport stopped all flights on Tuesday (Nov 3) because of the Barujari crater of Mount Rinjani eruption in Lombok.
According to sources, this has affected several travellers, including a group of Singaporean students as the airport in Lombok remains closed because of the eruptions.
Almost 700 flights at Bali’s airport, including 320 international ones, were cancelled from Tuesday (Nov 3) until Thursday (Nov 5), when it re-opened again.
According to The Jakarta Post, “Mount Rinjani is sill spouting volcanic dust unpredictably; the clouds continue to hang directly above the island.”
A group of 26 members of the student expedition were affected and were stuck in Lombok after they arrived on Nov 2 and were due to leave on Nov 6.
19 students and three teachers from the School of Science and Technology, Singapore were on a five-day marine conservation trip under the school’s Global Citizenship Programme. A spokesman from the Ministry of Education (MOE) mentioned that the school has been monitoring the current situation very closely and they are also in touch with the students’ parents.
Unfortunately, it’s still uncertain on when the flights will be back to normal.
