As Singapore celebrates 60 years, its narrative evolves from infrastructure to empathy. The launch of National Mindline 1771 on 18 June 2025 marks more than a service—it rewrites how we define national well-being. Now, mental health support is just a dial, message, or click away, day or night.
Accessible & Safe: Any Time, Any Channel
Mindline offers three confidential access methods:
This multi-channel setup ensures everyone—from chat-preferred youth to distressed adults on the go, to people at home—can seek help in their preferred mode.
A True First Stop for Support
Senior Minister of State Koh Poh Koon emphasised Mindline’s role as Singapore’s national “wayfinding service”. It isn’t clinical emergency care, but it connects individuals to the most appropriate level of assistance—whether that’s a counselling GP, community partner, digital programme, or escalation to IMH or police if necessary.
A Human Connection Backed by Expertise
Operated by a team of around 30 full-time professional counsellors, Mindline offers empathetic listening and guidance—not medical advice. Callers can remain anonymous if they wish, and are offered referrals and mental health guidance tailored to their needs.
About 70% of help-seekers so far have been young working adults, followed by teens—groups historically underserved in mental support systems.
Mindline’s Role within Singapore’s Mental Health Landscape
Mindline complements mindline.sg, Singapore’s trusted mental wellness portal launched in 2020, which provides:
-
Self-assessments (PHQ‑9, GAD‑7)
-
An AI chatbot for digital therapy
-
Over 500 curated local resources
-
A dedicated platform for working adults (“Mindline at Work”)
Together, they build a seamless ecosystem—digital access paired with human connection.
Building Towards Community-Driven Support
By late 2025, Mindline will launch a volunteer programme, training community members in psychological first aid and crisis response. These trained volunteers will support counsellors and contribute to mental wellbeing across society. The initiative also works alongside CARE Officers from the National CARE Management System, to bolster national capacity in public health emergencies.
Mindline in Numbers: Why It Matters
-
1 in 3 Singapore youths aged 15–35 report severe or extremely severe depression, anxiety, or stress symptoms.
-
Over 78% of individuals with mental health symptoms never seek professional help—citing stigma and lack of access.
Mindline addresses both gaps—reducing access barriers and normalising early support.
SG60 Reflection: Building Minds as Well as Infrastructure
SG60 is not just a celebration of infrastructure or economic progress—it’s a story of inclusivity and care. With Mindline, Singapore signals that mental health is national health, accessible to all, and part of the next chapter of our collective story.
Because in Singapore, building a strong future means caring for every mind that builds it.
