School of the Arts (SOTA)

SOTA

The School of the Arts (SOTA) building

The School of the Arts (SOTA) is Singapore’s first national pre-tertiary specialised arts school to offer a 6-year unique integrated arts and academic curriculum for youths aged 13-18 years old.

Set up by the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA), the School offers a dedicated development path for those who have interest and show early talent in the arts, providing a learning environment where both the artistic and academic potential can best be realised.

With a vision to identify and groom future generations of artists and creative professionals to be leaders in all fields, SOTA builds on Singapore’s unique strengths, including her multicultural Asian diversity and globally connected networks to synergise talents and resources.

Criteria for admission

The Talent Academy (TA) is a selection platform which includes live auditions, personal interviews and portfolio reviews with a panel of highly regarded and experienced educators and arts specialists from SOTA faculty as well as resource persons from Singapore and overseas.

During the audition, a student’s potential is taken into account as well as his or her artistic talent.

Students may audition in the following art forms at the TA:

  • Dance (Ballet or Non-Ballet)
  • Music (Instrumental or Voice)
  • Theatre
  • Visual Arts

All TA participants are also required to undergo a writing exercise.

More about SOTA on the next page…

SOTA

If your child loves the Arts, then perhaps SOTA is the place for her!

Foreign students and returning Singaporeans are required to sit for a Mathematics entrance test, in addition to attending the TA. There is a charge of S$100 for this test.

There is a registration fee of S$150 for the TA. This fee is not refundable. Applicants are also required to submit some supporting documents.

The TA is usually held during the March and June school holidays and is open to:

  • Primary 6 students
  • Current High School (International students) / Secondary 1, 2 or 3 school students who wish to apply for transfer to SOTA
  • Secondary 4 (Express) / Secondary 5 Normal (Academic) students taking the ‘O’ levels, who wish to be admitted into SOTA Years 5 & 6 Programme.

TA applications for 2014 are now closed, but interested applicants can look out for the next admission exercise in 2015 by visiting the SOTA website.

Good Luck to everyone who has applied for this year’s intake — you should be receiving a notification email in the next few weeks if you have been shortlisted!
