Robin Williams movies your kids should watch!

Today, the world received the shocking news of Robin Williams’ untimely passing. While many were saddened by this loss, many more couldn’t help but crack a smile as they remembered all the laughter and tears that Robin had brought into their lives via movies such as Good Will Hunting, Dead Poet’s Society, What Dreams May Come and more.

In celebration of Robin’s life, here’s a list of his movies that we recommend that your kids watch. They’re bound to put a smile on their faces, just as they did on ours.

Aladdin

Aladdin

Produced by Walt Disney, Aladdin tells of a lowly "street rat" tasked to enter the Cave of Wonders to retrieve a magical lamp for the dark Vizier Jafar.

Aladdin becomes trapped in the cave with his sidekick, Abu, and discovers the Genie of the lamp (Robin Williams). Aladdin develops a friendship with the Genie and uses his wishes to become a prince to chase the affections of Princess Jasmine.

When Jafar finally steals the lamp and gets three wishes of his own, Aladdin must rely on his intelligence to save his friends and the Kingdom of Agraba.

Memorable Quote: Do not be fooled by its commonplace appearance. Like so many things, it is not what outside, but what is inside that counts. This is no ordinary lamp. It once changed the course of a young man's life. A young man, who, like this lamp, was more than what he seemed. A diamond in the rough.

Mrs Doubtfire

Mrs Doubtfire

Released in 1993, this family comedy is based on Anne Fine’s novel, "Alias Madame Doubtfire".

Robin plays Daniel Hillard, an out-of-work father who dresses up as an old nanny so that he can see his children who are under the custody of their mother.

This movie emphasises the importance of family and keeping open lines of communication between parent and child. A definite must-see!

Memorable Quote: You know, some parents, when they're angry, they get along much better when they don't live together. They don't fight all the time, and they can become better people, and much better mummies and daddies for you. And sometimes they get back together. And sometimes they don't, dear. And if they don't, don't blame yourself.

Jack

Jack

This comedy-drama film tells the story of Jack Powell, a boy who’s been diagnosed with Werner syndrome. The syndrome basically makes Jack age four times faster than normal.

In the movie, Jack is initially home-schooled due to his parents’ fear of his being ridiculed for looking too mature for his age. However, Jack’s tutor (Bill Cosby) later convinces the family to let Jack go to public school like a normal 10-year-old would despite his 40-year-old features.

Memorable Quote: Life is fleeting. And if you're ever distressed, cast your eyes to the summer sky when the stars are strung across the velvety night. And when a shooting star streaks through the blackness, turning night into day... make a wish and think of me. Make your life spectacular. I know I did. I made it, Mom. I'm a grown up.

Jumanji

Jumanji

Jumanji is a 1995 fantasy adventure film based on a children's book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg.

The movie centers on 12-year-old Alan Parrish, who is trapped in Jumanji while playing the game with his friend Sarah in 1969. 26 years later two siblings begin playing and unwittingly release the now-adult Alan (Robin Williams).

After tracking down the all-grown-up Sarah, the four decide to finish the game in order to stop it from causing more havoc than it already has.

Memorable Quote: Well, when his kid ran away, Sam put everything he had to find him - his time, his money, everything. After a while, he stopped coming to work. He just quit caring. I don't think anybody loved his boy more than Sam did.

Night at the Museum

Night at the Museum

Released in 2006, the film is based on the 1993 children's book of the same name by Milan Trenc. It follows a divorced father (Ben Stiller) who applies as a night watchman at New York City's American Museum of Natural History and discovers that the exhibits come to life at night.

Memorable Quote: It can get a little spooky at nights so you might want to put a few lights on. The most important thing - don't let anything in...or out.
