COVID-19: 1 Death, 447 New Cases Confirmed on 2 May

Investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of death of Case 17410—a Bangladeshi national—who passed away on 1 May.

A 76-year-old Singaporean man has died from complications due to Covid-19 infection on Friday (May 1).

In an evening update, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said the man was confirmed to have the infection on April 6, and he also had a history of cancer. Changi General Hospital has reached out to his family and is extending assistance to them.

MOH also announced that a 47-year-old male Bangladeshi national has passed away on 1 May, and was confirmed to have the Covid-19 infection after his demise.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of death.

Additionally, MOH has confirmed 447 new coronavirus cases in Singapore today (2 May), a drop from yesterday’s 932. Of the 447 new cases, six are from within the community, with four cases involving Singaporeans/PRs and two are Work Pass holders.

The remaining cases come from Work Permit holders, of which 10 cases involve Work Permit holders residing outside dormitories while 431 cases are Work Permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories.

There were no imported cases today.

The total count of coronavirus cases in Singapore stands at 17,548, with the death toll at 17.

NUH housekeeper among new cases

Another NUH housekeeper was among those found to be infected with Covid-19. The 27-year-old Malaysian citizen had no recent travel history to affected countries or regions and had not been to work since the onset of symptoms.

He was confirmed to have Covid-19 on April 30 and is currently warded at National University Hospital (NUH).

Two clusters closed

In their statement, MOH said that 93 per cent of the new cases are linked to known clusters while the rest are pending contact tracing.

As there have been no more cases linked to Hero’s (69 Circular Road) and The Orange Ballroom (845 Geylang Road) for the past 28 days, the clusters have now been closed, MOH announced.

79 more people have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. In all, 1,347 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.

Of the 1,710 cases who are still in hospital, most are in stable condition or improving. 24 are in critical condition, while 14,474 cases who are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities.
