The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) on Friday (Feb 26) announced a recall of 18 kinds of Evergreen Life manuka honey products from New Zealand, according to Channel NewsAsia and AsiaOne.
According to AVA, non-approved substances such as dihydroxyacetone (DHA) and methylglyoxal (MG) may have been used during the processing of the honey.
“Consumers who have purchased the affected products are advised not to consume them and to discard them. While there is no food safety risk, consumers who have consumed this product and have any health concerns can consult your doctor or seek medical advice,” said AVA.
It was reported that New Zealand’s Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) has posted an advisory that Evergreen Life Limited is recalling the products.
The MPI has stated there is no food safety risk associated with the recalled products. However AVA is working with importers to recall the products from the market immediately, as its food regulations do not allow additives to be added to honey.
The 18 Evergreen Life manuka honey products are:
– Evergreen Manuka Blended Methyl Glyoxal Level 30+ (including product labelled as MGO 30+ mg/kg)
– Evergreen Manuka New Zealand Honey MGO 30+ mg/kg (including product labelled as 100% Pure New Zealand Honey Methyl Glyoxal Level 30+)
– Evergreen Manuka New Zealand Honey MGO 80+ mg/kg (including product labelled as 100% Pure New Zealand Honey Methyl Glyoxal Level 80+)
– Evergreen Manuka New Zealand Honey MGO 100+ mg/kg (including product labelled as 100% Pure New Zealand Honey Methyl Glyoxal Level 100+)
– Evergreen Manuka New Zealand Honey MGO 150+ mg/kg (including product labelled as 100% Pure New Zealand Honey Methyl Glyoxal Level 150+)
– Evergreen Manuka New Zealand Honey MGO 200+ mg/kg (including product labelled as 100% Pure New Zealand Honey Methyl Glyoxal Level 200+)
