She said she was raped by her father eight times in two months. She was just 14 then.
But her mum thought that her daughter was lying.
“I definitely know how my daughter thinks,” she said.
Girl Said She Was Raped By Her Father
On one occasion, the father had allegedly forced his way into the locked common toilet, while his daughter was changing and raped her.
According to The Straits Times, the girl reported the matter three years ago to her school counsellor, who had then informed the police and the Ministry of Social and Family Development.
Forensic analysis also found the father’s semen on the girl’s shorts.
Apparently, the offences were committed usually on a Friday, when her mother was away for mahjong.
The mother though, remained far from convinced.
She testified to the High Court that her daughter was a “very rebellious” child, who ran away from home multiple times to go out with male friends she met online. It seems, she would often sign her own report books.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Winston Man opined that regardless of her daughter’s relationships with boys, it was “a very big jump” to say that she lied about being raped by her own father.
To which the mum apparently replied, “This is your own personal view but as a mother, I definitely know how my daughter thinks.”
The girl is now 17.
Father found guilty
The girl also found little support from the rest of the family. Apparently, her paternal grandmother compared her to a seductress. Her mum even messaged her asking why she framed her father just to get “freedom”.
On 15 October 2018, the 35-year-old father was found guilty of raping his own daughter in their flat in Punggol.
The accused could not explain how his semen ended up on his daughter’s shorts.
Justice Lee Seiu Kin was convinced by the girl’s testimony, “Her version of events was given with a level of detail that can only come from a person telling the truth.”
Each charge of rape carries up to 20 years’ jail, and caning or a fine. Bail for the accused has been increased from $40,000 to $60,000.
The verdict is awaited.
