Today marks the 19th death anniversary of Princess Diana, and the world still hasn’t recovered from the loss. On a recent visit to the Keech Hospice in Luton, England, Prince William talked about how his mother’s death as he comforted a boy who had lost his mother last year.
“Time makes it easer,” the Duke of Cambridge told 14-year-old Ben Hines. “I know how you feel. I still miss my mother every day—and it’s 20 years after she died.”

At one point in the conversation, the prince put one hand on Ben’s shoulder to comfort him, telling the father and son, “Promise me that you will talk to each other.” Men, he added, are not “great sharers.”
“He gave Ben his absolute attention. You could see that it struck a chord with him,” Ben’s father, Gary Hines, told reporters. “I was getting all choked up towards the end when Ben was talking about his mum.”
Prince William was just 15 while his brother Prince Harry was 12 when the Princess of Wales died in a car crash in Paris.

Earlier this year, Prince Harry admitted that he regrets not talking about his mother’s death sooner. “It is OK to suffer, but as long as you talk about it. It is not a weakness. Weakness is having a problem and not recognizing it and not solving that problem,” he said at the barbecue for the mental health charity Heads Together.
