Ninja fireman saves suicidal father and baby

Ninja fireman saves suicidal father and baby

A fireman stopped a man from jumping off a building while holding his two-year-old child by high-kicking him through an open window. Watch the video here.

fireman savesRescuing people is all in a day’s work for firefighters. However, one firefighter literally gave lifesaving an extra kick when he  prevented a man from jumping to his death while holding a two-year-old child — by kicking them back into an open window.

A father on the edge

Soldiers and firefighters had rushed to a block of flats in Xining, the capital of China’s Qinghai province, after a man threatened to commit suicide by throwing himself from a window on the sixth floor of a building. The man is seen to be very distraught in the video, crying and screaming as he sits on the ledge while cradling the child.

High tension action

Rescue workers quickly proceeded to inflate a giant safety cushion at the foot of the building in case the man jumped or fell. At the same time, two firefighters began abseiling down the building from higher floors. When one firefighter was a few metres above the suicidal man’s head, he swung himself out from the ledge before swinging back in to kick the man back into the bedroom behind him. In one single motion both father and baby were pushed back to safety. Rescuers who had entered the building through another window picked up the baby and carried it out of harm’s way.

The reason for the father’s suicide attempt is still not known, however it seems that he had reportedly had a serious argument with his wife before the incident.

Watching out for signs of suicide

People who repeatedly attempt suicide are not just crying out for attention — it is likely that they are prepared to kill themselves. Here are ten signs you should look out for if you think someone is suicidal and a danger to themselves and others:

1. Suddenly giving away or selling off prized possessions
2. Overwhelming feelings of anxiety and/or sorrow at inappropriate times
3. Loss of interest in pastimes formerly enjoyed
4. A sensation of hopelessness, lack of self-esteem and feelings of guilt
5. Fatigue and overall lower energy levels
6. Posting suicidal thoughts on Facebook or other social networking sites
7. Suicidal thoughts and recurring thoughts about death
8. Irritability, restlessness and short temper
9. Difficulty concentrating, remembering details, and making decisions
10. Difficulty in maintaining close or romantic relationships

Remember that you always have a choice

If you or someone you know is suicidal, remember that taking your life is never a solution. There are many avenues that you can reach out to if you have suicidal thoughts. If you are uncomfortable talking to your family or loved ones, here are some organizations that you can contact for assistance:
