Colonel Terence Ho, chairman of the NDP 2023 Executive Committee, expressed his hopes of instilling confidence and unity among Singaporeans through this theme. The word “onward” holds significant meaning as it directly translates to “majulah” in Malay.
Exciting Highlights at the Padang
The celebrations at the Padang will include a new Total Defence Parade, showcasing the six pillars of Total Defence through floats, military machinery, and multimedia elements. Additionally, in commemoration of the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s 55th anniversary, an enhanced aerial display featuring more aircraft and thrilling manoeuvres is planned.
Enhanced Aerial Display and More Surprises
Colonel Terence Ho, chairman of the NDP 2023 Executive Committee, has hinted at an even more spectacular aerial display compared to the previous year. With additional aircraft and exciting manoeuvres planned, spectators can anticipate a breathtaking showcase by the Republic of Singapore Air Force. New Additions to the Parade
NDP 2023 will introduce the Digital and Intelligence Service’s guard-of-honour marching contingent, making their first appearance. Established in 2022, this service plays a crucial role in safeguarding Singapore against digital threats such as cyber attacks and electronic warfare. Their inclusion demonstrates Singapore’s commitment to adapting to evolving security challenges.
Inspirational Stories and Upbeat Anthem
The NDP show segment, titled “Building Our Shared Future As One,” will be presented through four acts and three connecting short films. These stories will feature inspiring individuals who have overcome adversity to pursue their dreams. Notable figures include sprint queen Shanti Pereira, furniture maker and designer Ahmad Habshee, and deaf teacher Charlene Wong. The aim is to instill confidence and resilience in Singaporeans as the nation emerges from the challenges of the past years.
Supporting Local Talent
The NDP 2023 provides a platform to showcase local talent. The theme song, “Shine Your Light,” composed and co-written by Don Richmond, features a collaboration with rapper Shigga Shay and a talented lineup of artists including 53A, The Island Voices, lewloh, Olivia Ong, Iman Fandi, and Lineath.
The song aims to ignite the spirit of all Singaporeans and bring a smile to their faces. The music video, directed by Shigga Shay, adds a visually captivating element to the uplifting anthem.
