Earlier this month, a flight has to make an unexpected turn due to a baby girl’s arrival. A mum gave birth to a healthy baby girl on a plane as she had her labour earlier than expected.
The pregnant woman is a passenger on a Frontier Airlines plane. She asked for assistance at the aircraft’s toilet as her little girl “couldn’t wait” to go out of her womb.
What happened was very unexpected; nobody with childbirth training could be found onboard. Fortunately, all the crew members were willing to help deliver the baby.
Flight attendant Diana Giraldo was recognised and received praise for her “exemplary and calm” intervention during the incident. She assists the passenger en route from Denver to Orlando in the United States.
“The whole crew really did a great job,” said the pilot, Chris Nye.
The Mum Felt a Jolt of Intense Contractions
Shakeria Martin was the woman who unexpectedly gave birth to a little girl during a flight. According to her, she woke up from a nap and felt intense contractions.
Before this, she said that she was “feeling fine and everything.” She just wanted to rest by napping without expecting her contractions to wake her up.
“The first thought that ran through my mind was this cannot be happening right now,” she said. “This cannot be; there’s no way I could just have this baby on this plane.”
A kind woman recognised to be Ms Giraldo was on the same flight and saw everything that happened. She was a total stranger that did not hesitate to extend her help to the woman in labour.
“I’m an older sister,” she said. “And so, to me, I saw this young woman; she was frightened.”
“She was uncomfortable. And when she told me she was scared, there was no comfort, There was no space inside of me for any doubt. I just had to make sure that I was there for her.”

The captain, who redirected the aircraft to Florida’s Pensacola Airport, stated, “I transferred controls and flying duties to my first officer as I coordinated the diversion.”
The captain did not fail to recognise and celebrate his team’s good work.
“Dispatch did a great job as well by suggesting Pensacola Airport and getting a gate and paramedics ready for us,” the pilot said.
For him, what the team has done is a “job well done.” He shares that he was delighted to see everyone working together to deliver a child successfully. It could be one of their most unforgettable experience at work–delivering a baby on an aircraft.
The Mum Added “Sky” to Her Newborn’s Name
Frontier Airlines said that the mum gave her newborn little girl the middle name Sky. The mum did this to honour the high-altitude labour.
