Giving birth to one SG50 baby is considered an occasion of happiness, but it’s double the happiness when you give birth to two SG50 babies… at different times in the same year
Madam Lydiawati Ibrahim, 33, gave birth to her second daughter A’lya Aamily Delisha, in February this year. Little did she expect that she would give birth to another baby on December 7, also this year!
Not surprisingly, Mdm Lydiawati was quite surprised when she found out she was going to have her second SG50 baby.
She said, “At first we were a bit worried, because we didn’t plan for the second one. We were thinking of the cost and the expenses in the future. But we carried on with the support of my husband, my family and also (obstetrician-gynaecologist) Dr Lee Keen Whye.”
“When Dr Lee said that I was expecting a boy, because my previous two were girls, it was a ‘double happiness’ for my family”, the proud mum added.
According to Channel NewsAsia, Mdm Lydiawati’s son Rifly was born at Gleneagles Hospital, weighing 3.035kg at birth.
The family were even congratulated by Prime Minister Lee in a Facebook post on 8 December:
The mum of three, who works at Gleneagles Hospital as an admissions officer, explained the birth was tiring since it was just earlier this year that she gave birth to her daughter. But other than that, “everything was normal”.
Dr Lee said he could not remember another case of a woman giving birth twice in the same year in the last 25 years, say reports. However, it was quite common back in the 1960s and 1970s.

Best to wait for longer
Mothers should wait for two to three years before having another baby, recommends Dr Lee. This gives them adequate time to rest, and bond with their child.
With regard to Mdm Lydiawati’s births, the doctor explains that it would be essential “make sure the mother has had enough rest, and that she’s nutritionally capable to be pregnant again so soon” to avoid “all the complications that may come with poor nutrition”.
Meanwhile, Mdm Lydiawati and her husband Mr Mohamed Ali will get their second SG50 Baby Jubilee Gift, for their newest newborn.
Mr Ali said that “the Golden Jubilee is very meaningful for us because we are proud of Singapore”, therefore, having two babies within this year is certainly memorable.
We at theAsianparent couldn’t agree more, and we wish the proud parents all the very best!
