There’s a saying that goes, “a person’s home is their castle.” But for Elizabeth Edwards and her daughter Katie, that sadly wasn’t the case.
Both of them were 14 years old
A teenage couple from the UK stabbed a 49-year-old mother and her 13-year-old daughter to death inside their own home. To add insult to injury, the couple had sex after they murdered the mother and daughter.
The couple also allegedly watched vampire movies downstairs, while the bodies of Elizabeth and Katie lay covered in blood upstairs. They stayed like that for 36 hours until the police found their bodies.
The boy and the girl were both 14 at the time of the murder.
The murder was planned by the pair
The teenage couple apparently planned the murder of the mother and daughter inside a McDonald’s restaurant. It supposedly took them 10 minutes each to kill Elizabeth and Katie, and their plan was carried out “to the letter,” according to court records.

The mother and her daughter were both stabbed in the throat, possibly to prevent them from screaming.
The boy has admitted to two counts of of murder. The girl is now being tried for murder after she admitted to two counts of manslaughter.
During the initial court hearings, the prosecution said that the girl was “excited at the prospect of murder,” and acted in a “rational, logical, and cold” way when it came to the killings.

- Make sure to keep everyone calm. Make sure to not panic if you sense an intruder in your home. Keep calm, and always have presence of mind, you should also do your best to keep your family calm.
- Create a ‘safe room’ inside your home. It’s important to have a place where you and your family can immediately run to should there be an intruder in your home. Make it easy to access for you and your family, but hard to find and enter for an intruder.
- Always have a phone handy so that you can call the police. Always keep a cellphone by your bedside in case you sense an intruder. Immediately call the police and ask for their help.
- Keep you and your family hidden. If in case you don’t have a ‘safe room,’ you should do your best to hide yourself and your family from any intruders. Keeping your family away from any intruders should be a top priority.
- Check for any security risks, such as doors or windows that can easily be opened. Make sure to check your home for any entrances that burglars or any home invaders might try and exploit. Always lock your doors as well as the gates of your home.
