Top ten most unromantic Anti-Valentine's Day activities

There are some people who absolutely adore the ever-popular celebration of Valentine’s Day and use this opportunity to proclaim their love or do romantic things with their significant other.

But not everyone is a fan of this annual tradition and would go out of their way to not make a big deal of this day and may even plan to do the most uneventful things just to prove their point.

If you fall under the latter category, then you’ll be delighted to have this guide to the most unromantic Anti-Valentine’s Day activities you can do in Singapore so you can tell cupid to go fly a kite!

Laser Tag

Laser Tag

Remember the time your partner forgot it was your birthday and didn’t even apologise? Now’s the time to get back at him by chasing him all around an interactive arena with a laser gun!

You can also get a bunch of your friends together to join in this blood-pumping game as you manoeuvre through the maze and avoid being shot in this surreal gaming experience.

Address: LaserOPS, 60A Orchard Road, #B1-04/05/06

Website: https://laserops.com.sg

Combat Archery Tag

Combat Archery Tag

Cupid gets on your nerves and you want to wipe that smug smile off his cherubic face – so grab a crossbow, aim at your target and fire away!

Live out your Hunger Games or Lord of the Rings fantasy as you take part in this fast-paced, action-packed game which uses special foam tipped arrows that are 100% safe and painless (because you don’t really want to kill your partner or friends… right?).

Address: The Cage @ Kallang, Kovan Sports Centre, Zion Sports @ Tiong Bahru, or any other locations of your choice

Anti-Valentine’s Day Party

Anti-Valentine’s Day Party

If you are hot, single, and ready to mingle (or even if you’re a couple who thinks that Valentine’s Day is overrated), head on down to Lucha Loco’s Anti-Valentine’s Day party, "Hearts Go Loco"!

There will be lots of fun games, complimentary tequila shots, a chance for you to beat the stuffing out of a Piñata, some cool tunes by DJ Dave Does ‘til late and much more.

Address: Lucha Loco, 15 Duxton Hill

Army Museum of Singapore

Army Museum of Singapore

Guys, bring your ladies to the Army Museum of Singapore and tell her about your National Service days on Pulau Tekong – don’t forget to include details about how you almost got eaten alive by mosquitoes and wild boars when you marched through the jungle, and the spooky tale of the freaky potianak who loitered around the toilet after midnight – that will definitely ensure that your loved one completely forgets it’s V-Day.

Not only is there free entry for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents, there is also free parking available so you can continue to gloat over the fact that you didn’t have to fork out a single cent for this day out!

Address: SAFTI Military Institute, 520 Upper Jurong Road (near Singapore Discovery Centre).

Jurong Fishery Port

Jurong Fishery Port

Wake your partner before the crack of dawn, throw on a pair of shorts, singlet and slippers then get your sleepy heads down to Jurong Fishery Port to inhale the fishy aroma of freshly caught seafood and pick out some prawns, crabs, lobster, groupers, squid, pomfrets, mackerels and other friends of Nemo.

Rumour has it that this bustling market will be redeveloped in the near future to include a multi-storey centre, an array of restaurants and retail facilities which will add more vibrancy to the whole place.

Address: Jurong Fishery Port, Fishery Port Road

Khoo Teck Puat Hospital

Khoo Teck Puat Hospital

Want to get to know your partner from the inside out? Sign her up for a full health screening and get to really know more about her heart (and other organs!).

You can make sure her cholesterol is ok, find out whether her kidneys are functioning well and just for fun, throw in a pap smear or a stool sample check as well. Super (un)romantic, right? You’re welcome.

Address: Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, 90 Yishun Central

Charity work

Charity work

Do your part for the community and show your love to those in need instead this Valentine’s Day by volunteering your time and services to the various charities across the nation who need your help.

There are many volunteering opportunities available in Singapore where you can channel your care and attention to those who will really appreciate your effort and could do with a little bit of love too.

Address: Various charities available, please refer to website for more details

Hawker centre

Hawker centre

No fine-dining restaurants or romantic picnics at the beach for you this year – put on your stretchy pants and bring your date out to your favourite neighbourhood coffeeshop or hawker centre for some delicious local food.

Don’t cheat by going to the more "fancy" hawker centres like Lau Pa Sat, Chomp Chomp or Newton Circus either – pick the ones in the heartlands that have not been featured on any television shows by Anthony Bourdain or Bobby Chinn – the grimier and smokier, the better. You want to leave the place reeking of char kway teaow and mee goreng so you can remember your "hot date" for the rest of the night.

Paintball Park

Paintball Park

Ah… what other way to show your undying love than to shoot at each other with guns? Red Dynasty Paintball Park is touted as Singapore’s number one most popular paintball park and offers a great range of different packages to suit your needs.

From the crowd favourite, Rambo (Package D) that gives you 300 paintballs which guarantees you a full paintball experience, to the unique Zombie (Night Package) where you can dodge from the undead under the moonlight!

Address: The Cage Sports Park @ Turf City, ORTO @ Yishun, Camp Challenge @ Sembawang.

Haw Par Villa

Haw Par Villa

The best way to try and forget everything about love and romance is to come face to face with visual reminders of the 10 courts of hell, and other than contacting your ex to go through that again, you can make your way to Haw Par Villa - the only theme park of its kind in the world with elaborate statues depicting Chinese folklore, mythology and different sorts of punishment in hell.

Previously known as the Tiger Balm Gardens, this unique attraction is getting a major makeover and new features will include fine dining outlets, various other eateries, a gift shop, a new Rise of Asia Museum (ROAM), art exhibitions, performances, flea markets, and even yoga, taiji and wushu sessions.

Address: 262 Pasir Panjang Road

No matter who you spend Valentine's Day with, be it your partner, friends, siblings, pet or even your lonesome self, just have fun and always remember that even though you may hate cupid's guts, someone out there loves you!
