Recently, I had the amazing opportunity to review Morton’s The Steakhouse as part of my best restaurants for a date night article.
I was really excited about reviewing Morton’s not only because I had not been there before but also because I’d heard wonderful things about their food.
The best part about being invited to review Morton’s was that my husband and I got to enjoy a date night while devouring scrumptious food — completely kiddie-free!
Drinks at the bar
We started our date night out at the bar, where I ordered a chocolate ‘Mortini’ and my hubby ordered a lychee ‘Mortini’.
The chocolate Mortini was amazing. The glass was very generously coated with good-quality chocolate and the drink itself was utterly delicious!
Both Mortinis were quite potent and I was happy with just one, but my husband — who loved his cocktail so much — was up for trying the apple Mortini too!
During ‘Happy Hour’ (from 5 pm to 7 pm daily), Morton’s serves a free-flowing supply of Steak Sliders. Although they were heavenly, I had to stop at one because I knew I needed to save space for dinner.
The ambience
In my opinion, having drinks at the bar is absolutely the perfect way to start off your date night.
Once we were done with our Mortinis and Sliders, we moved down to the main restaurant for the ‘main event’ — dinner, of course!
The ambience of Morton’s The Steakhouse is quite similar to the bar — dimly lit and very cosy with a retro feel.
There are regular tables and there are also booths where you and your sweetheart can cosy up and enjoy your meal.
Service
The service at Morton’s is exceptionally good! The staff are well-trained and pleasant.
Our server, Aida, was cheerful and very knowledgeable about the menu and wine pairing for the food.
The food: Starters, mains and sides!
Ah, the food! Morton’s The Steakhouse, as it’s name suggests, specialises in giving you the best steak ever.
That being said, everything we tasted at Morton’s was divine. Here’s a selection of dishes available at Morton’s:
Since we were there to review the restaurant, we were presented with a selection of new dishes from their menu.
Do note, though, that all guests are presented with a crispy-on-the-outside and scrumptiously-soft-on-the-inside onion loaf served with butter.
This bread is so good, you’ll really have to stop yourself from tearing off chunks of it — especially if you don’t want to feel full before starting on the other food!
For our starters, we were presented with two of Morton’s newest additions to the menu.
Tuna Tacos — $39
Super-fresh raw tuna is encased in a crunchy taco and served with a creamy sauce, avocado, and a tomato salsa.
You can really taste the vibrant freshness of the perfectly seasoned tuna. Combined with the accompaniments, this is a starter to die for!
Chopped Spinach Salad — $25
This is a hearty and crunchy salad that could even stand alone as a meal in itself. I simply loved it — its warm dressing with crispy bacon and button mushrooms gave the salad great texture.
Do keep in mind that the salad is large enough for two to share, so if you want it to be your main dish, you can certainly do so! I wouldn’t advise it though, because you should definitely go for Morton’s steak!
Back to my review, my husband and I were thrilled to learn that we would be getting Morton’s ribeye steak with sides and one of their new menu items as our mains.
Center Cut Prime Ribeye 16 oz — $99.50
Ok, here’s the thing — if you are famished, then you might be able to finish the entire steak.
However, like us, if you have had starters, then it might be a good idea to share this. Actually, we were told that many of Morton’s regular guests actually do share this dish!
The taste of the steak — oh my gosh, where do I start?!
We wanted our steak done to medium-rare and it was cooked to absolute perfection. It was rich, well-marbled and amazingly juicy.
Every juicy bite was heavenly and I just cannot stress how much I recommend this steak.
We got two sides to go with our steak, which were also new items on the menu:
Creamed Corn — $22
This is a perfect pairing for the ribeye steak. Although it is pretty rich, it is beautifully flavoured with little chunks of ham — definitely a must-order!
Au Gratin Potatoes — $24
This dish features thin slices of potato layered in a small casserole dish and bathed in creamy cheese sauce.
Although the flavours are spot-on, this was not my favourite dish. I felt it was rather decadent, perhaps because the ribeye was rich as well.
Baked Stuffed Shrimp — $87
This was the second main-course dish we sampled. As you can imagine, we were already pretty stuffed by the time this was served, but we couldn’t resist the aroma of the baked prawns.
Gosh, how I wish I was less full then — the prawns were succulent and the stuffing, which was crabmeat, was so fresh and shredded just right. I got big chunks of crabmeat in each bite — yum!
The food: Dessert to die for!
Did I mention how I wish I wasn’t so full when our second main dish was served? Well, I wished this more than ever when our desserts made an appearance.
Of course, despite being fabulously full with all the food that we’d eaten, we were not about to miss out on these two tempting creations in front of us:
Baked Apple Crisp – $27
With delicately spiced chunks of apple in a caramel-y sauce, plus a crisp crumble topping, this dessert is an apple pie lover’s dream come true!
What pushes this over the boundary into utter decadence? That scoop of gorgeous vanilla ice cream sitting proudly atop the crumble, generously drizzled with caramel sauce. Totally delish!
Chocolate Lava Cake – $30.
This came very highly recommended by Aida, our lovely server. She said that this is one of the restaurant’s bestsellers — and I soon found out why.
Being a self-declared chocoholic, these are the desserts I live to indulge in. The best-quality chocolate makes all the difference in this dessert. It was luscious, melt-in-your-mouth smooth and gloriously rich.
This was my favourite dish of the day — and a definite must-try. What a perfect end to our fabulous date night at Morton’s!
