It’s that time of the year again.
The start of the new school year is just a week away, and we can literally hear parents running through their checklists and telling their kids to sharpen their pencils, write their names in the books, polish their shoes and make sure that everything is in order for their first day back.
While they are busy completing the logistical arrangements for this important milestone, parents can sometimes overlook their child’s emotional preparedness for the new school year, especially primary school children.
Many children are anxious about the new school year as they worry about making new friends and performing well academically.
I know that the start of the new school brings its own set of anxieties for my son, who can feel rather overwhelmed at the prospect of “starting it all over again”. He worries about making new friends, fitting in, getting along with their teachers and performing well academically.
I have realised that at this “back-to-school moment” parental support through simple words of encouragement and supportive gestures can go a long way in easing my son’s anxieties and instilling optimism and confidence in him instead.
So when he opens his lunch box on the first day of school, he will find a note from me stuck on his favourite drink, Milo, encouraging him on. My note will read: My little champion, the world is yours — do your best and be proud. Love, mum.
After all, I’m a Milo mum and I believe in nourishing my child’s ambitions and encouraging his everyday victories to ensure his lifelong success. He will be getting many such notes from me throughout the year! I’ve signed up for MILO® Singapore’s #MILOGoForIt social movement, which is encouraging parents to write notes of love and support for their children to help them overcome their insecurities and anxieties and provide critical emotional support during their transition into the new school year.
Join #MILOGoForIt social movement and write a note of encouragement for your child to help him transition into the new school year.
To kick start the #MILOGoForIt movement, MILO® Singapore invites all parents with kids between the ages of 7 to 12 years old to write a personal message of encouragement every day to their child during the first few weeks of the new school term.
To win a 3D 2N stay at Resorts World™ Sentosa, Festive Hotel™ Deluxe Family King Room worth $1,630, all you need to do is:
- pen a note of encouragement to your child
- snap a picture of it
- upload it into the contest form below
Your note could be on a Milo Sticker and on a Milo pack or it could be a simple home made note (see the images below). All that counts is the positive and encouraging message that you are sending to your child!
As part of the movement, MILO® Singapore will be releasing #MILOGoForIt stickers island-wide. The free stickers will be distributed in primary schools and are available at all major retail outlets. For more updates, check the MILO® Singapore Facebook page.
