This year’s Mid-Autumn festival falls on October 4th, but there are many celebrations happening across the island over the weekend leading up to the festival. Besides eating mooncakes, other popular activities include admiring the moon, harvest-themed lanterns and spending time with your family.

Head down to these family-friendly and mostly free events this weekend in Singapore and get into the Mid-Autumn Festival spirit!

Mid-Autumn Festival at Gardens by the Bay

Gardens by the Bay gets even brighter during Mid-Autumn @ Gardens by the Bay with some of Singapore’s most impressive lantern displays including Waters of Prosperity, a 1,250 square metre traditional fishing village set on Dragonfly Lake.

The Supertree Grove will have a special edition of their evening light and music show the Garden Rhapsody: Tales of the Moon including a wide selection of music from jazz favourites to Chinese classics. Daily at 7.45pm and 8.45pm

Chinatown

Chinatown had its official light up party last weekend, but you should still visit this colourful neighbourhood for your Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations! Besides the lanterns that you can see everywhere, there is a carnival in front of People’s Park Complex on top of all the street stalls that can be found along Smith Street.

On Sunday, October 1 from 7pm to 10pm join in a mass lantern parade starting at Kreta Ayer Square and ending at the main stage on New Bridge Road.

There are tons of fun family activities happening this weekend only at Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival.  Join the Storytelling hour to learn why we eat mooncakes and learn about the story of the Moon Goddess and the Jade Rabbit.

They’ll be hosting many creative workshops including one where you can make your very own lantern out of cellophane or another where you can make beautiful (and delicious!) snowskin mooncakes. Click here to find out more.

It wouldn’t be a Mid-Autumn Festival without lanterns, and at SYSMH, you can enjoy their uniquely designed lanterns on the museum’s lawn until 15 October.

Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay

With over three dozen programs running at Esplanade, we’re frankly spoiled for choice this Mid-Autumn Festival!

Families with young children will enjoy the Grandfather and Grandmother storytelling hours as well as the many craft workshops including one to make adorable Pompom Jade Rabbits and another to make colourful cardboard lanterns.

Be sure to keep an eye out for Esplanade’s Mid-Autumn Festival mascots Chang E, Hou Yi and Mr Mooncake who will be walking around, posing for photos with their fans!
