Mentally-ill mother shoots dead her two daughters on the street

Police arrived and found them on the street, and when the mother refused to drop her weapon, an officer shot and killed her.

One would never expect a mother to hurt her own children, but that was the case with this Texan mum when she did the unexpected and shot two of her daughters, killing one on the spot.

Reports say that mother Christy Sheats was found armed in the street outside a Fort Bend County home near the bodies of her daughters Madison, 17, and Taylor Sheats, 22.

The sisters reportedly ran outside to escape their mother who had began firing inside the house, where Taylor had already been shot. Madison, on the other hand, was shot once she was outside.

One of her daughters was pronounced dead at the scene; the other daughter was rushed to the hospital but later died from her injuries as well.

Police arrived and found the three women on the street, and when the mother refused to drop her weapon, an officer shot and killed her.

“Our officer was forced to take action,” the Fulshear Police Department wrote on Facebook. “He was not injured and no deputies were injured. This was a tragic and unfortunate occurrence and we are deeply saddened by the results,” police said.

In an ABC report, one neighbour said that Christy and her husband had recently reunited after a separation; he was at home when the shooting occurred but was uninjured.

According to the Houston Chronicle, the motive behind the shooting remains “unknown” and under investigation, but Sheriff Troy Nehls suspects that it stemmed from “a family argument that turned into a shooting. But we’re still trying to put the pieces together.”

Meanwhile, it is believed that Christy Sheats had had history of mental illness; the sheriff’s office told People that they had before been to the Sheats’s home “for previous altercations” regarding a “mental crisis.”

In her social media account, the mother often expressed her admiration for her daughters.

“Happy Daughter’s Day to my two amazing, sweet, kind, beautiful, intelligent girls,” she wrote last September on Facebook. “I love and treasure you both more than you could ever possibly know.”

She is also very vocal about her support for firearms.

Last March on her Facebook account, she said: “It would be horribly tragic if my ability to protect myself or my family were to be taken away, but that’s exactly what Democrats are determined to do by banning semi-automatic handguns.”
