Marriage Pressure From Parents Pushes This Woman’s Limits

In eastern China, a young woman rushed to a nearby hospital after struggling to control her breathing.

During her examination, doctors determined that she suffered from anxiety disorder and respiratory alkalosis. This combined condition occurs happens when you breathe too much air, especially when experiencing panic attacks.

Reports say that the primary cause of her severe anxiety came from her marriage pressure from parents. Her mum and dad caused immense frustration as they constantly pushed her to settle down.

Some people excuse the marriage pressure from parents as concern for their child’s future. They also claim they only want to prevent their kids from feeling unloved, alone, and unhappy if they fail to find a lifetime partner.

Some parents believe their love gestures to their kids include pushing them to get married. They say they want their children to have a happy family as they age. Perhaps, they believe that marriage and children satisfied them, so it must also satisfy you.

Unfortunately, not all children share this view of settling down. In the worst-case scenario, parents’ extreme desire to see their child get married ends up damaging their mental health.

The Pressure Triggered Severe Anxiety Symptoms

The 27-year-old woman lives in Jinan in Shandong province in eastern China. Her story went viral on local social media. The post gained about 260 million views on Weibo—China’s Twitter-like social media platform.

In her post, she talked about her diagnosis and how she struggled to breathe properly while suffering from a panic attack. Additionally, she recalled noticing her twitching limbs and the numbness she felt before rushing to the hospital.

Concerning this, other symptoms like difficulty in breathing developed her respiratory alkalosis. Her rapid breathing triggered low blood carbon dioxide levels in her body.

The young woman’s doctor, Dr Chen Liang, said something about her symptoms. According to her, the symptoms worsened after a heated argument with her parents.

“She told us that her parents had repeatedly pressed her to marry,” stated Dr Chen Liang.

At that time, the woman’s parents brought up the topic of marriage again. They kept pestering her and pushed her into starting a fight. After the intense argument, the woman started struggling to breathe when she felt her test tighten.

The doctor also said that most respiratory alkalosis patients also suffer from anxiety disorders. She then stated simple treatment that is helpful to patients suffering from respiratory alkalosis and anxiety disorders.

For treatment, Dr Chen Liang advised, “They can put on a face mask to help regulate breathing, and people must try to calm them and help ease their anxiety.”

Aside from that, she reminded those experiencing it to seek medical help as soon as they notice the symptoms do not improve.

If you are one of those who are feeling the pressure to get married, check out these tips:

  • Remind yourself that you shouldn’t live to always please your parents. Children are also not responsible for living a life that eases their parents’ worry.
  • Respectfully establish topic limits when conversing with your parents. By doing this, you allow them to realise what you want to avoid in your talks.
  • Recognize how you feel about your parents and the demands they place on you. This helps you cope with marriage pressure from parents.
  • Remind yourself that you don’t always need your parents’ approval for everything you do in life. If you constantly aim to meet their demands, you may struggle to determine what you want for yourself.
  • Convince yourself not to settle until you find your true love. Additionally, enjoy your relationship first before walking down the aisle.
