According to reports, the boy was safe and there was adequate food and water for the boy in the rented flat. That said, this event is just shocking, and things like this seldom occur in this island nation.

The social media is ablaze with the latest developments with people tweeting photos of the block. According to one of the online news portals, this 39-year-old man moved in with his girlfriend and her son a few months back. They frequently got into arguments and on Tuesday, the woman was seen locked out. But a few other reports suggests that he was a friend of the family.

The police of the Ang Mo Kio unit as well as Singapore Civil Defence Force, members of Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team were seen on the premises. Channel News Asia reports that the Sembawang GRC MP Lim Wee Kiak spoke to the media giving them updates about the situation.

We await more details about the fate of the man, and if this is construed as kidnapping, the penalties are severe.

Meanwhile, it is worthwhile to do a quick check on your partner before he/she moves in with you. This is important as it would impact not only your life, but also the life of your immediate family.

These are the few things you need to find out

  • Was the person in a past relationship? Why did it end?
  • Does the partner have children of his own? How do his kids behave in front of him?
  • Is your own family comfortable around the person? Are your kids okay with the new relationship?

There is no ‘correct pace’ for a relationship. You deserve all the love in the world. Just make sure that you get it from the right person.

With the man behind bars, this story ended on a positive note. However, it is better to be safe than sorry.
