A 33-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were charged on Saturday (25 Jul) for murdering a four-year-old girl, and for allegedly moving her body for disposal.

This comes after the Singapore Police Force (SPF) received a report last Monday (20 Jul) at 5.36pm that the four-year-old, Megan Khung Yu Wai, had gone missing.

They established that the girl had died and identified three suspects linked to her death.

The 24-year-old woman, Foo Li Ping, was identified as the girl's biological mother.

Man and Woman Accused of Murder in February

According to reports, the two offenders—Foo, and the man Wong Shi Xiang—were accused of killing Foo's daughter in February at a unit at Suites @ Guillemard, a condominium in Paya Lebar.

Foo and Wong also worked alongside another woman, 30-year-old Nouvelle Chua Ruoshi who has also been charged with disposing Megan's body as a cover up of what had happened to her.

Wong was said to have worked in a car servicing workshop at the Industrial Park last year, but left shortly after, according to the workshop owner in an interview with Lianhe Wanbao

According to reports, it is understood that Wong and Foo are a couple. However, further details on how they are related to Chua were not disclosed.

Mother Insisted on Raising Child on Her Own

According to Foo's brother-in-law to Shin Min Daily News on 26 July 2020, Foo and Wong had been embroiled in arguments over their daughter.

This led to the couple in agreeing to a divorce after being married for more than a year.

Foo's brother-in-law said Foo "was adamant on raising the child by herself" after her divorce. She moved out with Megan who was said to have been around 18 to 19 months old then.

Foo brought Megan to live with her own family, and denied her in-laws to see the girl, the brother-in-law said without revealing his name.

Matters appeared amiss only when Foo's mother contacted Foo's mother-in-law to say that she has not heard from her daughter since the moving out with Megan.

"That's when we thought something was wrong," the brother-in-law said.

May Face Death Penalty if Found Guilty

All three suspects will be remanded at the Central Police Division and will return to court this Friday, 31 July 2020.

Offenders convicted of murder with common intention face the death penalty.

Those found guilty of disposing a corpse to prevent detection of an offence with common intention can face a jail term of up to seven years.
