How to help your child excel in English & Math

5 Jan, 2015

Welcome to a brand new school year! Now that the school holidays are over, it’s time to ease your kids back into the school routine filled with lessons, co-curricular activities and enrichment classes.

Speaking of enrichment classes, have you decided which ones to enroll your kids in? What areas do they need help in? Should you let them focus on English, Math – or both?

If you are looking to help your kids excel in both English and Math, you might want to take a look at the enrichment programmes offered at LiteracyPlus – a leading English Language and Literature enrichment centre, which will also be offering a specialised math programme in 2015.

Click ‘Next’ to find out more about LiteracyPlus, and don’t miss the exclusive offer for all readers of theAsianparent at the end!

Quality enrichment programmes

Quality enrichment programmes

LiteracyPlus was founded by Mrs June Imada Lee, who is a reading specialist and U.S.-trained English Language & Literature teacher. Since its inception in 1997, LiteracyPlus has touched the lives of more than 155,000 students in over 150 preschools and primary schools in Singapore.

The centre is known by principals, educators (which include English Language Heads of Department in schools), and parents for their reliable service, experienced team of teachers and solid curriculum.

In 2006, the LiteracyPlus Enrichment Centre opened on Holland Drive. This marked the beginning of a warm and nurturing learning environment where greater individual attention is provided through small class sizes (max of 10 students per class).

A new look for LiteracyPlus

A new look for LiteracyPlus

Celebrating its 18th Anniversary this year, LiteracyPlus recently launched a fresh new look to better reflect the values that they believe in, to both students and parents. Be sure to look out for the new logo and website design, and do step into the revamped enrichment centre on Holland Drive.

Although the company has been given a makeover, its mission remains the same – to nurture creative and confident readers, writers and thinkers through quality enrichment programmes.

Dedicated and experienced teachers

Dedicated and experienced teachers

LiteracyPlus maintains a stringent recruitment process and hires only the best teachers who believe in their values.

Teachers at LiteracyPlus are dedicated to helping students harness the power of language, discover the worlds beyond the classroom, and unleash their potential.

Check out what this happy mum had to say about her child's performance after attending lessons at LiteracyPlus:

"We enrolled Samuel at LiteracyPlus to improve his comprehension and writing skills. In just 3 months, we could see improvement through his daily work and exam scores. We also noticed improvement in his vocabulary - we are very happy with his progress!

"Samuel always looks forward to lessons at the Centre, and he enjoys Ms Tan's fun and interesting teaching methods. He shared that Ms Tan is patient and nice in class, and she even encourages him to help others and work as a team."

Strategic and comprehensive exam preparation

Strategic and comprehensive exam preparation

Lessons at LiteracyPlus cover key exam components and are in line with the syllabus defined by the Ministry of Education (MOE).

Instead of mindless practice, students are progressively taught skills to tackle Composition Writing, Reading Comprehension and Oral Communication, as well as Grammar topics and concepts to build fluency.

Engaging and effective lessons

Engaging and effective lessons

Through the incorporation of multimedia, engaging activities and current affairs, LiteracyPlus lessons bring English to life and promote discussion and critical thinking.

The curriculum features quality children’s literature to model good writing and encourage reading. Many of the Literature Appreciation Programmes are endorsed by the National Arts Council-Arts Education Programme (NAC-AEP).

Excelling in PSLE Maths

Great news! Starting from 2015, LiteracyPlus will be offering Math programmes at its enrichment centre that promise to match the same level of excellence achieved by its English programmes.

On top of covering the key concepts for each topic, lessons will focus on problem-solving shortcuts and strategies which students can apply during exams, particularly to solve higher-order, non-routine problem sums.
