Actor Leon Jay Williams Almost Goes Blind After Getting Kicked In The Eye By His 6-Year-Old Daughter

"I hope to make a full recovery although there is a chance that it might never be 100 percent healed," said the actor in his post.

Quite scary, isn’t it! So how did it happen?

Leon posted on Instagram that he was accidentally kicked in the eye when his daughter attempted a cartwheel. He suffered a ‘blurred vision‘ and went for a checkup at the eye specialist within days of it happening. The doctor informed him that it was a torn retina and surgery had to be performed immediately.

He further informed that had he delayed seeking treatment by a few days, it would have resulted in complete blindness because his whole retina had dislodged.

“I’m going to have blurred vision in my left eye for a few weeks at least and am still recovering. I hope to make a full recovery although there is a chance that it might never be 100 percent healed,” said the actor in his post.

He ended his post with a note of caution and asked people to be careful of eye injuries and not to neglect them. “Get checked ASAP when hurt. Even if u feel no pain but only blurred vision. We only have 1 set of eyes and they are not replaceable. Take care and I will ‘See’ u soon!’, he wrote.

Well, we hope Leon recovers soon!

This incident surely is an eye-opener on what needs to be done in case of any eye injury. As parents, we are also often unmindful of small accidents that can happen. Which is why we must all including our children, be privy to the ways to prevent an eye injury.

How To Prevent Eye Injuries At Home: A Guide For Parents

Leon’s advice to his fans on following due process and getting any eye injury checked has come as reminder to us all. Eye injuries affect about 2.5 million people every year, with household items causing the most damage. But the good news is that eye injuries are preventable if you take the right precautions at home.

  • Make sure there are no sharp edges, be it your furniture or home fixtures

  • Be careful when opening bottles for wine or carbonated drinks

  • Always, turn nozzles away from your face before spraying

  • Wash your hands every time after using household chemicals

  • Wear protective eye gear while using a lawnmower or weed trimmer, so that nothing can enter your eyes

And when you step out–while wearing your masks–ensure that you wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays.

However, if you somehow so manage to injure yourself and spot any symptoms of eye injury such as redness, swelling, tears, eye pain, headache, problem in focussing, then consult your eye specialist immediately.

In the meantime, you can follow some home safety instructions.

  • Don’t rub your eyes
  • Splash your eyes generously with water for 15 to 20 minutes
  • Make sure you keep your eyes open during flushing
  • Gently place a cold compress over your eye in 5- to 10-minute intervals. Do not place ice directly on the skin. You can use a cloth in between the ice and skin.
  • However, if there are any cuts or wounds. Don’t wash your eyes.

As Leon rightly said, “We only have 1 set of eyes and they are not replaceable.”Keep your eyes safe and protected.
