ICYM: KidZania Singapore To Cease Operations After 4 Years

ICYM: KidZania Singapore To Cease Operations After 4 Years

KidZania Singapore, an indoor family edutainment centre at Palawan Beach Sentosa, is ceasing its operations in after four years.

Indoor theme park KidZania Singapore on Tuesday (16 June) announced that it will not be reopening its doors even after Singapore moves into phase 2 of its reopening by 19 June.

According to the KidZania Singapore website, it “will not be reopening its doors upon the lifting of circuit breaker measures and other social restrictions.”

In a Facebook post, it thanked all its patrons for the support in the years they have operated here.

COVID-19 Impact

Attractions are just some of the businesses highly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

These businesses have not seen any crowd since the beginning of the circuit breaker here in early April.

In a report by The New Paper on 01 June, Kidzania Singapore—uncertain when they can reopen—has “planned promotions to attract visitors when it is able to reopen,” citing an anticipated drop in the number of visitors.

However, in a media statement on 17 June, the management said: “aside from zero ticket revenue due to the temporary closure since early April, revenue has also been impacted as commercial partners have reduced their participation due to financial constraints and cost control efforts.” It noted that it has been a challenge for it “to achieve the returns needed over the years”, which has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Please don’t close…”

News of the closure has left many parents and children with sadness, citing how they have been looking forward to coming back to KidZania once the country fully reopens.

Meanwhile, others are riddled with confusion, asking about ticket refund processes and what to do with their Kidzos—KidZania’s own currency.

The Facebook statement said any enquiries may be sent to [email protected].

KidZania, an indoor family edutainment centre at Palawan Beach Sentosa, first welcomed guests into its “kid-sized city” on 12 April 2016.
