How to manage your household during your maid's day off

How to manage your household during your maid's day off

At first glance, having to handle all of the household tasks yourself without your maid might be a daunting task, but there are actually quite a number of benefits that you can reap during your maid's day off.

With the busy schedule of working mums and dads these days, having a maid or a nanny is no longer considered a luxury; more so, it has become a necessity for busy parents as it’s not easy to manage your household while also having a full time job.

At first glance, having to handle all of the household tasks yourself without your maid might be a daunting task, but there are actually quite a number of benefits that you can reap during your maid’s day off.

Here are a few pointers on how to manage your household effectively during your maid’s day off.

1. Plan ahead

Schedule your maid or nanny’s days off accordingly and make sure to follow the laws regarding domestic workers in your country. Try and schedule the days off on weekends where you’re not busy so that you can have your whole day reserved for your family. Make sure to not schedule any important meetings, calls, or appointments during that day so that there are no distractions.

2. Ask your family for help

Think of your maid’s day off as a way for you to get closer with your family. Schedule activities such as cooking the dinner, or cleaning the house and make it into a fun activity.

Don’t think of them as chores; instead, turn it into a fun family bonding activity. Make sure to also talk it through with your family, and make sure that everyone knows their responsibilities during your maid’s day off.

3. Reduce the mess

In order to lessen the cleanup work that you’ll be doing, it’s best to reduce the mess. If your kids usually just leave their plates or glasses on the table after eating, you need to tell them that they’re responsible for cleaning up after themselves.

This not only teaches your family responsibility, but it also lessens the work that you have to do. A good rule of thumb would be to clean as you go.

4. Delegate daily tasks and chores

If your maid will be gone for a while, it’s best to assign specific chores to specific members of your family. For example, your older children can handle washing and drying the dishes, while you and your husband can be the ones to dry and fold the laundry.

Make sure that everyone sticks to their assigned tasks so that everything can go smoothly. Delegating chores can also help teach your kids responsibility and it can make them more independent.

5. Just relax, and have fun!

Think of your maid’s day off as a time to get closer with your family. Sure, it’s tiring to deal with all the housework while your maid’s gone, but it’s more important to spend as much time as you can with your family. You need to treasure these moments as with the fast pace of life these days, spending time with your family isn’t an easy thing to have. So just have fun with it.
