How Flight Attendants Stay Healthy While Flying

How Flight Attendants Stay Healthy While Flying

Learn the insider tips from flight attendants on how to stay healthy while flying. Discover their secrets for a better travel experience!

From thehealthy.com

Flying can be taxing on the body, but flight attendants seem to have mastered the art of staying healthy despite the constant exposure to germs and changing environments. Here’s how they do it—and how you can adopt their strategies to boost your own travel wellness game.

1. Hydration is Key

Flight attendants emphasise the importance of staying hydrated during flights. Taylor Strickland suggests drinking plenty of water to counteract the dehydrating effects of flying. Opt for bottled water over tap water, coffee, or tea, which might not be as clean as you’d expect on aeroplanes.

2. Hand Hygiene

Keeping hands clean is crucial. Use moist towelettes or wet wipes to freshen up and reduce germ exposure. Flight attendants like Lauren Guilfoyle also use hydrating mists and argan oil for added refreshment and protection.

3. Immune Support

Many flight attendants swear by immune system support supplements like Airborne, which they keep stocked for preemptive measures against illness.

4. Disinfect Surfaces

Bring along disinfectant wipes to clean the surfaces around you, especially tray tables and armrests. It’s also wise not to eat directly off tray tables, which can be hotspots for germs.

5. Opt for Healthy Snacks

Instead of processed foods, reach for water-based snacks like fruits and raw vegetables. These keep you hydrated and provide essential nutrients.

6. Relax and De-Stress

Stress can impact your health, so finding ways to relax during travel is key. Essential oils like lavender can help create a calming environment.

7. Skip the Caffeine

Avoid caffeine and alcohol, which can contribute to dehydration. Choose hydrating alternatives like fruit juice instead.

8. Exercise Regularly

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, can help your body cope with the physical demands of flying and time zone changes.

9. Rest Adequately

Flight attendants advise against strenuous exercise immediately after a flight. Give your body time to rest and recover before hitting the gym.

10. Nap Smartly

If possible, take advantage of in-flight naps to combat jet lag and stay energised. Create a comfortable kit with a neck pillow, noise-cancelling headphones, and an eye mask for optimal sleep quality.
