TODAY nutritionist Joy Bauer offers some kid-friendly alternatives to all the junk that our little ones are usually craving for. Let's face it, fast foods are here to stay. It's really hard to compete with them because what they offer usually look very appealing. Well, especially the toys that come with them.
To solve this problem, Joy Bauer tells parents to meet their kids halfway. That is, to start offering their kids fastfood staples like burgers, fries and pizza so their little ones will enjoy dining at home. Below is her version the Inside Out Cheeseburger:
- 1 (20-ounce) package ground turkey (at least 90 percent lean)
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 4 ounces 2 percent reduced-fat block cheddar cheese, cut into 4 (1-ounce) slices
