The Pollution Standard Index (PSI) in Palangkaraya has hit more than 2,000. A PSI level of more than 300 is considered to be hazardous to health. It is strongly encouraged to stay indoors as much as possible when this happens.

For one mum at Palangkaraya, the haze has caused her to lose her baby. According to the BBC, the moment Yessi’s baby was born, she was already breathing in unsafe air. It reached a point where Yessi had to rush her to the hospital as her chest was tight around the heart area. But nothing could be done. The doctor said she died because of haze-related illnesses.
