Haze-cation: 7 getaways to escape the haze in Singapore

25 Sep, 2015

It’s that time of year again when the haze blankets Singapore and sets our lungs ablaze.

Our air purifiers go into overdrive, and we're cooped up at home. We say it’s time to whisk your family off to a place where you can give your throats a little R & R.

Keep in mind that a PSI reading of 0-50 is good, where air quality is considered satisfactory, and air pollution poses little or no risk.

Keep clicking Next to find a spot that excites you!

Bangkok, Thailand from $134 return

Bangkok, Thailand from $134 return

PSI: 12

Flight Duration: 2hr 30min

If you're up for exploring a modern city humming with nightlife and fervour, Bangkok is the place for you. Its well-deserved reputation for 24-hour street food gets crazier with each corner- so prepare to be feasting your weekend away. In a city blessed with some of the world’s most sumptuous malls, it's no wonder our knees go wobbly every time we set foot there.

Penang, Malaysia from $204 return

Penang, Malaysia from $204 return

PSI: 21

Flight Duration: 1hr 20min

Penang is known to be a tropical paradise that offers something for everyone- from historical buffs and nature park enthusiasts to those just wanting to get a tan on a sun-drenched beach. So pack that sun-block lotion, and embrace a getaway that will leave you relaxed and rejuvenated.

Langkawi, Malaysia from $140 return

Langkawi, Malaysia from $140 return

PSI: 29

Flight Duration: 1hr 30min

Escape the bustle of Malaysia's buzzing capital and soak up the sun on the beautiful beaches of Langkawi. If chilling over a cocktail with a scenery to kill (read: the Andaman Sea) is what you're looking for, book those tickets now! We know we want to.

Bali, Indonesia from $300 return

Bali, Indonesia from $300 return

PSI: 0

Flight Duration: 2hr 35min

When there's a survey to find the world's most desirable island destination, you can bet your bottom dollar that Bali will come out on top. The charm of Bali is it's lovely palm-fringed beaches, amazing Indonesian cuisine, and show-stopping picturesque rice terraces. Need we say more?

Phuket, Thailand from $112 return

Phuket, Thailand from $112 return

PSI: 12

Flight Duration: 1hr 50min

Phuket is famous for it's cheap accommodation, offshore islands, clear water beaches, and mouth-watering seafood (actually any kind of Thai food). A great pick if you're also on the hunt for a spot with amazing nightlife- the only thing lacking is the time to see and do everything. So start booking your holiday, pronto!

Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam from $143 return

Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam from $143 return

PSI: 0

Flight Duration: 2hr

Ho Chi Minh City is a super-charged city of sensory overload. Motorbikes zoom day and night along the boulevards and pushing handcarts which hawk goods of all kinds control the streets.

If you’re up for a high octane vacay, you’ve found you haze-free spot. You can embrace peaceful parks, beautiful pagodas and quirky coffee shops (HCM city has a strong café culture).

Also known to be in rich in history, the kids will love a tour to the Cu Chi tunnels. Delve into an underground world of guerrilla warfare and have a feel of what it was like to be a war rat. Definitely an educational trip for the kids!

Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia from $179 return

Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia from $179 return

PSI: 46

Flight Duration: 2 hr 25 mins

Kota Kinabalu is heaven for those who love seafood. Well for Singaporeans, cheap seafood (thank you, Malaysian exchange rate). Don’t miss the night market with fresh fish, prawns, squid, crabs, lobsters and more seafood that you can say in one breath.

If you’re crazy about sunsets, pay a visit to Tanjung Aru beach. Try hitting the beach early, because you won’t be the only one trying to get a fabulous photo. A retreat so near home and so far away from the haze daze, we say pack those bags and get onto the plane now!
