Did we just make you blush, cringe or gag? Well, you might actually be thanking us for this beauty secret soon enough.
Former model, single mother of two kids, and beauty blogger Tracy Kiss, has come up with a bizarre approach to natural beauty treatments for healthy looking skin — sperm facials.
She claims that regular applications of it have benefited her skin as she suffers from rosacea, which causes redness and flushing.
Tracy described how a male friend delivers his semen to her in plastic pots which she then rubs into her skin and leaves to sink in for up to 20 minutes.
She stresses that she’s ‘not involved’ in the donation, and that it’s a result of something her friend would be doing on a daily basis anyway.
How is it done?
Tracy said the idea was brought to light during a conversation about natural remedies with her beauty therapist.
“The topic of semen facials came up, and I began researching the use of semen as a facial ingredient,” she says.
Watch this video to see how she does it.
Is it safe?
But some dermatologists aren’t too happy with this beauty tip. Though semen might be full of proteins, there are several areas of concern like the transmission of herpes, HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.
Dr Will Kirby, a Beverly Hills dermatologist explains that while a healthy, balanced diet contains vitamins and minerals as well as protein, the benefits of applying it to the skin remain elusive.
“Many people — even monogamous couples — have undiagnosed sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that could be spread to the mucous membranes (lips, nostrils and eyes) via topical application of male ejaculate for those seeking aesthetic improvement”, he says.
So while smooth, soft, supple skin might be beautiful, Dr Kirby warns that chlamydia of the eye isn’t.
Spermine is an antioxidant found in sperm which can help reduce wrinkles and prevent acne.
The first time you heard about this strange beauty ritual might have been from the episode of the TV show Nip/Tuck where Joan Rivers makes a special appearance as a high-profile client who buys some special face cream made with the secret ingredient – sperm.
But there are a few other women out there who swear by this all natural treatment for their soft supple skin.
The late Cosmopolitan Editor-in-Chief, Helen Gurley Brown was apparently a firm believer of semen facials and even wrote about it in her memoir, I’m Wild Again: “Spread semen over your face, [it’s] probably full of protein as sperm can eventually become babies. Makes a fine mask — and he’ll be pleased.”
Melrose Place soap star, Heather Locklear was asked in an interview about the secret to her youthful beauty, and her reply was, “You just put semen on your face.”
Magical elixir or pure hogwash?
According to some studies, a crystalline polyamine compound called Spermine which is also known as an antioxidant can be found in sperm and is believed to be able to reduce wrinkles, smooth skin and also help with controlling or preventing acne.
Bioforskning, a Norwegian company, has even synthesized the compounds and created a facial Spermine cream which they claim to be 30 times more effective than vitamin E and can supposedly delay the aging process by up to 20 percent.
Motherhood may have added a few lines and eyebags to our faces, but are Singaporean women willing to try out this unique beauty treatment? We asked a few local ladies and here are their reactions:
“Yes I would try it since it’s 30 times more effective than vitamin E and I would want faster results.” — Mary E
“I have actually tried it once before. I think it really works though because look at all the pornstars – they have perfect skin! My aunt also says that it helps her boobs stay firm even though she’s quite old now.” — Wilda F
“What?! I think it’s quite gross. I wouldn’t try it! I don’t even dare to swallow it and you want me to put it on my face? I’ll just stick to the usual laser treatments.” — Candy S
“Why are women so scared of getting old? It baffles me that they would go to the extreme to look young. Just eat right, sleep well, exercise, drink lots of lemon water and stay happy. Let’s just grow old gracefully.” — Mariam S
“Delay the aging process? Yes please! slap some baby batter on my face.” — Glo
“Eeeew! There’s no way I would use sperm on my face. In this case, I don’t mind looking my own age!” — Minoli
