Easy apple pie recipe - Granny's apple pie

11 Jan, 2013

This is an amazing apple pie recipe that can be addictive. Be warned, tried and tested by Nadiah our designer--she has baked this pie five times in two months.

Ingredients: 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 3 tablespoons ice water, 1/2 cup shortening, chilled
Directions to make that crust

Directions to make that crust

Whisk the flour and salt together. Use a pastry blender, cut in the cold shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons ice water over flour. Toss mixture with a fork to moisten, adding more water a few drops at a time until the dough comes together. 2. Gently gather dough particles together into a ball. 3. Wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes before rolling. 4. Roll out the dough, and put in a pie plate. Fill with desired filling and bake.
The baking process

The baking process

1.Preheat oven to 220 degrees C. Melt the butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour to form a paste. Add water, white sugar and brown sugar, and bring to a boil. Reduce temperature and let simmer. 2.Place the bottom crust in your pan. Fill with apples, mounded slightly. Cover with a lattice work crust. Gently pour the sugar and butter liquid over the crust. Pour slowly so that it does not run off. 3. Bake 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce the temperature to 175 degrees C. Continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, until apples are soft.
The final product

Ready to be served. Be warned. I made it 5 times in the past 2 months. It can be very addictive.
