Free TCM Clinic in Punggol: A New Healthcare Hub for Residents

Quality healthcare just got closer! The free TCM clinic in Punggol is now open, offering a range of traditional treatments.

A new free TCM clinic in Punggol has officially opened, providing vital traditional Chinese medicine services to the community. On May 26, Seu Teck Medical Institution (Punggol Branch) at Block 176A Edgefield Plains began welcoming residents, offering a range of holistic treatments.

Comprehensive TCM Services

The free TCM clinic in Punggol offers various services to ensure residents receive quality care. From consultations and dispensary services to acupuncture and therapeutic tuina massage, the clinic is well-equipped to meet diverse healthcare needs. It’s a place where residents can find the treatments they need, close to home.

Supporting Community Health

The clinic has been running since March, staffed by two dedicated physicians. This new branch is the third free TCM clinic operated by Seu Teck Medical Institution, a charity managed by Bukit Timah Seu Teck Sean Tong Institution. The other two branches are located in Jurong East and Clementi. Remarkably, all three clinics rely entirely on donations to sustain their operations, showing the community’s strong support and the charity’s commitment to providing accessible healthcare.

Pasir Ris-Punggol MPs Teo Chee Hean and Yeo Wan Ling were present at the clinic’s official opening. Senior Minister Teo highlighted the importance of TCM in promoting health and fitness among residents. He acknowledged the community’s desire for a balanced and healthy life, which TCM techniques help achieve.

Ms Yeo added that while Punggol is often seen as a young town, areas like Punggol Shore have many senior residents. The new free TCM clinic in Punggol brings essential services right to their doorstep, making healthcare more accessible. Discussions with Seu Teck Medical Institution began in 2022, aiming to enhance community engagement and provide necessary amenities.

Resident Testimonials

The impact of the free TCM clinic in Punggol is already evident in the lives of residents. For example, Edgefield Plains resident Jim Bek, who is in his 60s, has been visiting the clinic regularly. Diagnosed with terminal jaw cancer in January 2023, Mr Bek has faced several health challenges, including deteriorating vision and hearing, and loss of touch. Through weekly acupuncture treatments at the clinic, he has found significant relief from his symptoms. The convenience of having the clinic nearby has greatly improved his quality of life.

Promoting Healthier Living

Ms Yeo also noted that the Government’s Healthier SG message is resonating well within the community. Many seniors are now taking charge of their health, and TCM is a welcomed form of treatment. The clinic’s presence in Punggol is a testament to the community’s proactive approach to health and well-being.

Takeaway

The new free TCM clinic in Punggol is more than just a healthcare facility; it’s a vital part of the community. By offering comprehensive traditional Chinese medicine services and promoting healthier living, the clinic plays a crucial role in enhancing the well-being of Punggol residents. Whether it’s through acupuncture, therapeutic massage, or simply providing a space for health consultations, the clinic stands as a beacon of care and support in the neighbourhood.
