6. Fight some (pretend) fires

Parents, did you know that your local fire station is open to the public every Saturday morning from 9am to 11am? It’s the perfect outing for fire engine loving little ones, who can get to climb on fire trucks and even splash around with a real firefighter’s hose.

We encourage you to make a trip to Singapore’s oldest surviving firestation, the Central Fire Station, where kids can also explore the museum located there.

7. Go on a hike!

7. Go on a hike!

For such a tiny island, Singapore has many amazingly preserved pockets of green that are perfect for exploring with the family. The MacRitchie Nature Trail and Reservoir Park is one such place.

What we recommend doing with the kids is walking across the 250-metre aerial free-standing suspension bridge – Treetop Walks – spanning the two highest points within MacRitchie. After that you can go on an exciting adventure around the 11km nature trail loop known as MacRitchie Trails. If you’re lucky, you’ll see long-tailed macaque monkeys, squirrels and monitor lizards and even colugos (flying lemurs) or owls!

Do remember to take plenty of water and wear sturdy walking shoes. And don’t forget the mozzie repellent for the whole family.

Bring out your inner child and take your little ones out for some kite-flying action. Marina Barrage is the perfect place to do this!

The setting is pretty amazing too, with the stunning Marina Bay Sands in the background. So, we suggest you pack a picnic and make an afternoon out of it.

The Observatory in the Omni-Theatre building at the Science Centre hosts free stargazing sessions for the little ones every Friday, every month. If you go in the month of June, you’ll get to see Jupiter, Saturn and Venus in the night sky! How awesome is that?

You can find out more information about these stargazing sessions here and here.

10. Explore the ultra-hip streets of Tiong Bahru!

10. Explore the ultra-hip streets of Tiong Bahru!

Tiong Bahru is one of Singapore's gems and begs to be explored with the kids in tow.

The streets of Tiong Bahru are full of "old meets new" charm - gorgeous heritage art deco houses, quirky shops packed with something for everyone and some of the best cafes in Singapore where you can stop for a bite.

We love Woods in the Books where you can pick up some great reads for the kids and Plain Vanilla Bakery for some of the best cupcakes in town!

Just remember to tell us what your family's favourite shop is after you explore Tiong Bahru.

11. Skate the days away!

11. Skate the days away!

If your older kids love skating, you must head to Xtreme Skate Park @ East Coast Park straight away! Skating enthusiasts rave over this park, calling it "The one and only complete and concrete skatepark in Singapore" and "The only skatepark to feature a 12 foot bowl and ramps."

Located within the gorgeous East Coast Park, the skatepark overlooks a stunning ocean view. Mums and dads, do remember it heats up a fair bit during the day so set off early in the morning or in the evening armed with plenty of water. And don’t forget helmets for the kids too!

Where: East Coast Park (near Carpark F1), Marine Parade, Singapore 449881

Opening hours: 7.30am-10pm daily

12. Splashing fun at a water park

12. Splashing fun at a water park

June is one of the hottest months in Singapore. What better way for your kids to cool down in the heat than to head to one of our island’s many fantastic and free waterparks?

We personally love the Far East Children’s Garden at Gardens by the Bay and the Aqua Playground at i12 Katong Mall. The former is perfect for younger kiddos aged between one and 12 years old. You can find out more about it here.

The latter is situated on level four of the I12 Katong Mall in Katong and your kids will find swings, slides, and water gushing and spraying out of colourful flowers and other contraptions there. While it’s recommended for children aged five to 12, it’s definitely suitable for much younger kids too – with parental supervision, of course.

You can find out more about these two water parks and many more by reading this theAsianparent article.
