An Italian businessman was arrested in Brazil for kissing his daughter on a public beach. The arrest was made after an elderly Brazilian complained that the man was being too affectionate towards his daughter.
The man’s wife, also a Brazilian, said there was nothing wrong with what her husband did. The daughter supports her mother’s claim. Despite these statements from his family, the man is still facing child molestation charges that could put him in prison between 8 to 15 years.
The Italian newspaper La Repubblica reports that a lawyer at the Italian consulate believes that the elderly couple and the Brazilian police were just too zealous because of the rampage of paedophiles in their area. A lot of people voluntarily vouched for the Italian man’s good character. They think that the arrest was just a misunderstanding.
This just goes to show that perhaps, we might have to be careful about how we display our affection towards our very own children in certain parts of the world!
