10 fascinating comments that highlight Jackie Chan's parenting style

6 Nov, 2014

The actor-son of action megastar and anti-drug ambassador Jackie Chan was recently arrested on drug charges in Beijing.

Jackie Chan is known to be a rather controlling and stern parent, and has, on numerous occasions, publicly criticised his son Jaycee’s lifestyle and actions.

An article that appeared recently in The Straits Times listed some of the rather awkward comments Jackie had made about his son in the past.

Keep clicking ‘next’ to read Jackie Chan’s comments – and some of his son’s too – for a fascinating insight into his parenting style.

On Jaycee’s upbringing

"I really regret not sending him into the army in the past, to give him more experience and temper his character."

On Jaycee’s martial arts training - or the lack thereof

On Jaycee’s martial arts training - or the lack thereof

"When he was young I tried to train him in martial arts but he said: 'I don’t want to become like Bruce Lee’s son, with everybody telling me how good my father was'.

I just think my son is too lazy. I tell Will Smith: 'Can I adopt your son?'"

"I don’t want to talk about him. Every time I talk about him, it makes me so angry. He just... I don’t know. Maybe because as a father I always want my son to be perfect."

Jackie apparently left his son out of his will. Why?

"If he is capable, he can make his own money. If he is not, then he will just be wasting my money."

When Jaycee called Jackie on Father’s Day

When Jaycee called Jackie on Father’s Day

"I am not into celebrating any holidays as we should be nice to each other and treasure our family every day."

Apparently, Jackie did not get the message across to Jaycee. The younger Chan reportedly stopped communicating with his dad completely.

Talking about how Jackie wanted him to have long hair growing up, Jaycee told The New Paper in 2004:

"Maybe it's because he can't keep long hair himself. I never bothered to ask [why]. He will nit-pick over the smallest things, like how I place my shoes. But he has always been like that, and we're used to it."

With Jackie’s extremely busy work schedule, it is a well-known ‘secret’ that he spends little time with his family.

In 2012 Jaycee had this to share: "In the past, I only saw him six times in six years. He worked too hard!"

Jackie’s thoughts on being a father

"I really don't know if I'm a good father or not, because I've never looked after my son or sent him to school. The one time I went to pick him up, I went to the wrong school."

On his relationship with his son

On his relationship with his son

"My relationship with Jaycee is more like a friend. It is the same as how I was with my father."

We think Jackie needs to give his 'friend' a call now when he needs his support more than ever.
