Earth Hour 2018 In Singapore
Every year millions of people celebrate Earth Hour around the globe. Earth Hour is an annual environmental campaign that brings attention to the effects of climate change by asking people to switch off lights at their homes and businesses for an hour. It is usually observed on the last Saturday of March.
This year, Earth Hour will be from 8:30 pm – 9:30 pm on Saturday, 24 March. Let’s check out what’s happening for Earth Hour 2018 in Singapore!
Go plastic-free with WWF
World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-Singapore) is celebrating Earth Hour 2018 in Singapore with a plastic-free event, from 16 to 25 March 2018.
This year, Earth Hour will be highlighting the global plastics crisis and rally support from people to address plastic waste in Singapore.
A line-up of environmentally-themed activities including art installations, marketplace and games will illustrate the impact plastics have on nature.
Earth Hour is held in conjunction with i Light Marina Bay, which encourages sustainability through a showcase of 22 light art installations.
The 10-day festival from 16-25 March will feature interactive experiences, art and family-friendly games at the Earth Hour Village. The annual 60+ Countdown Bash will take place on 24 March, with the Singapore skyline going dim at 8.30pm.

Journey through nature (16-25 March): A Panda Dome with a 360° projection transports viewers to lush nature settings, following a protagonist who is plagued by plastic waste.

Art installations by LASALLE College of the Arts (16-25 March): A collection of four art installations, made from used plastics, by LASALLE Diploma and BA(Hons) Fine Arts students will also be on exhibit. Each installation captures a different aspect of the issue, from single-use plastics to microplastics.

Great Panda Quest (16-25 March): A kids-friendly game where visitors can spot WWF’s Pandas along Marina Bay and complete a series of tasks for a chance to win exclusive prizes.

Countdown to Earth Hour 2018 at City Square Mall
Go down to City Square Mall on 24 March 2018, from 7.00 pm to 10.00 pm, at the B1 Fountain Square. Get ready to count down to an hour of lights-off to mark Earth Hour, an annual celebration at the mall.
Shoppers can look forward to a line-up of family activities such as recycling and grasshopper making workshops, exhibits, a free movie screening, as well as take part in a quiz to walk away with a Water Wally keychain.
The lights of selected areas around the mall and other non-essential lights will be switched off for an hour.
Workshop & Exhibit
Let your creative juices flow and create your own DIY musical instruments at the Bottle Music Instrument-making Workshop.
The first 200 shoppers to register at the venue will be provided with recycled bottles and materials to customize their personal instruments. Shoppers can also take part in the Grasshopper-making Workshop conducted by students of Woodgrove Secondary School.
Plus, shoppers can learn more about climate change, water conservation and how they can protect the planet at the exhibits, in collaboration with the Public Utilities Board (PUB).

Stage Quiz and Countdown
Before the lights go off, put your knowledge to test with an interactive stage quiz and stand to win a Water Wally keychain! Then, countdown to Earth Hour at 8.30 pm where non-essential lights will be switched off for an hour.

Movie Screening
After ‘lights off’, sit back and relax with a free movie screening of ‘The Good Dinosaur’. Join Arlo and Spot as they embark on an epic adventure to reunite Arlo with his beloved family. Travel back to 65,000,000 years ago as the story about self-discovery, facing (and living with) your fears and love unfolds.

Earth Hour with Frasers Malls
Frasers retail and commercial properties, namely – 51 Cuppage Road, 55 Market Street, Alexandra Point, Bedok Point, Causeway Point, Changi City Point, China Square Central, Eastpoint Mall, Northpoint City, Robertson Walk, The Centrepoint, Valley Point and Waterway Point – will be switching off all non-essential lights during Earth Hour 2018.
Earth Hour Sustainable Workshop

Details: In collaboration with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment, Eastpoint Mall will hold a recycling workshop.
Save the Earth Pencil Case Workshop
Where: Eastpoint Mall
When: 24 & 25 March 2018, 12pm to 2pm, 4pm to 6pm
Details: Children can learn more about conserving the Earth in an interactive manner by creating their very own Save the Earth Pencil case.
Recycling Drive
Where: Robertson Walk, Valley Point, China Square Central
When: 29 March 2018
Details: Recycling helps to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfills, therefore saving energy, resources and reduces pollution. Get rid of your old recyclable bottles made of cans, metals plastics of glass at Frasers malls in exchange for a $5 voucher.
Go Green with AMK Hub
As part of the global Earth Hour and Earth Day initiatives, AMK Hub invites you to go green!
As a mark of Earth Hour, AMK Hub will be switching off the façade and garden lights to conserve energy and reduce carbon footprint.
Inter-school Recycling Competition (30 Mar – 8 Apr 2018)
Leading up to Earth Day on 22 April, AMK Hub is partnering 3 Primary Schools in Ang Mo Kio’s neighourhood to present an inter-school recycling competition.
Over 60 students between Primary 3 to 6 from Andersen Primary, Mayflower Primary and Teck Ghee Primary will take on the challenge to create art pieces or functional objects using recycled materials. 10 of the schools’ best upcycling creations will be shortlisted and will then be displayed at AMK Hub, Level 4 for public viewing and voting!
The competition hopes to instill and promote recycling habits, environmental awareness, good social behaviour and creativity from an early age.
Donation Drive with The Salvation Army (14 – 15 Apr & 21 – 22 Apr 2018)
Donate your unwanted, preloved items to The Salvation Army over 2 weekends at the donation drive.
The first 250 shoppers who donate at least 3 kg of items, can redeem a $5 AMK Hub fashion voucher and shopping vouchers worth over $800! Limited to 1 redemption per shopper per day. The event is held at Level 4 from 2 pm to 6 pm.
