A 23-year-old woman on Tiktok named Melita Stutsman suffered from doctors' misdiagnosis for years. Doctors told her that her clitoral pain was just a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). They eventually discovered that it was a cyst when her clitoris had already ruptured.

Doctors Insisted She Only Suffered From UTI
After 10 years of Melita Stutsman's suffering, she finally had a proper diagnosis of her condition.
"After 10 years of being misdiagnosed and what I would say is negligent care by different doctors," she said. "I finally have a diagnosis of a reoccurring problem I've been having."
The ordeal started when Ms Stutsman was 14-years-old. She experienced discomfort and decided to tell her mum about it.
The first doctor that they visited told her that it was just UTI. The doctor then recommended she take antibiotics, and it went away.
Six years later, she was already 20 years old; her condition returned.
"It came back, but it came back so bad that it was uncomfortable when I walked," said Ms Stutsman.
This time, she decided to visit a gynaecologist. Unfortunately, the gynaecologist had the same diagnosis as the doctor she saw six years ago—UTI.
"It looks like you've had one before," the gynaecologist said to her. "So, we will just give you a stronger dose of antibiotics because you were saying this is worse."
The second doctor consultation happened in October 2018. She was given another set of antibiotics; it went away just like before.
Fast forward to her third diagnosis last March; Ms Stutsman is already 23 years old.
She explained,"In the span of 24 hours, my clitoris swelled to the size of a grape."
Ms Stutsman's condition is already causing her so much pain that she has had to miss a day of work. She needed to see a doctor as it was already becoming terrible.
Another doctor told her it was just a UTI the third time around. The doctor took a couple of swabs to ensure no infections. However, the doctor said, "it's probably just a horrible UTI."
Like her two previous doctors, the third one also prescribed her antibiotics, and she went home.
"I took the first dose that night and while I was trying to sleep — with seven ibuprofen and an ice pack between my legs — with my knees propped up... It ruptured."
She also said that it was the worst pain of her life, and there is no easy way to tell that her clitoris was ruptured.
Her Clitoris Eventually Ruptured After Three Misdiagnoses
Melita Stutsman said, "there was puss, there was blood, it was a whole thing."
After that, she felt a bit relieved that after experiencing initial pain, she felt so much better. She then finished off the antibiotics and did not think that it was going to be a problem. "The lesion didn't go away where it ruptured," she said.
She called her doctor and left a voicemail. Unfortunately, they never called her back, so she decided to look for another doctor after a couple of days.
"As it turns out, this whole time, I have had a cyst, and it keeps getting infected," she concluded. "So now, I have to have it removed."
Ms Stutsman then said that the misdiagnosis she experienced for so many years is beyond frustrating.
"I feel like doctors are taught to trust their books more than their patients," she stated.
She then explained that what she has on her clit is called an epidermoid inclusion cyst. After what she had gone through, she hoped doctors would take their time to listen to their parents.
What You Need to Know About Epidermoid Inclusion Cysts
Epidermal inclusion cysts usually form due to a disruption of the follicular infundibulum. It also occurs when skin layers are implanted on each other due to injuries or skin conditions. Initially, this type of cyst causes no harm.
Unfortunately, some doctors misdiagnose the condition because of its formation in certain areas. In Ms Stutsman's case, it formed near her clitoris. They can appear anywhere on the skin but are most common on the face, followed by the chest or back, scalp, neck, legs, arms and genitalia.
Is it painful?
Epidermoid inclusion cyst is often asymptomatic. However, when it grows large, it causes pain before eventually rupturing. Consult a doctor if you develop these or other concerning symptoms.
Symptoms to Remember
The main symptom of an epidermoid inclusion cyst is a small moveable lump under the skin. The lump is not usually painful. However, it can get inflamed and become tender to the touch. The skin on the area of the cyst may be red and/or warm.
How long does it last?
Some cysts shrink over time and become asymptomatic. However, others may continue to grow until you get treatment. Without treatment, you may have the epidermal inclusion cyst for the rest of your life.
