A Guide to Singapore's Diabetes and Metabolism Centre: What to Expect

Say goodbye to multiple appointments! At Singapore's Diabetes and Metabolism Centre, expert care for diabetes and metabolic conditions is all in one place.

Managing chronic health conditions like diabetes, hypertension, or kidney disease often involves navigating multiple appointments and treatments. Singapore’s Diabetes and Metabolism Centre (DMC) offers an integrated approach to simplify and enhance care for patients with diabetes and metabolic conditions. Here’s what you can expect from this one-stop healthcare hub.

An Integrated Approach to Chronic Disease Management

The DMC is designed to address the diverse needs of patients with chronic diseases under one roof. With specialists in endocrinology, renal medicine, vascular surgery, internal medicine, and podiatry, the centre adopts a multidisciplinary approach. It also includes peritoneal dialysis and vitreo-retinal services, ensuring comprehensive care for conditions often associated with diabetes.

Patients benefit from services like:

  • Diabetes nurse education for understanding and managing diabetes.
  • Dietetics counselling to create personalised dietary plans.
  • Drug management services to optimise treatment plans.

This integrated model not only reduces the hassle of visiting multiple clinics but also ensures a holistic approach to managing complex health conditions.

Convenient On-Site Facilities

The DMC prioritises patient convenience by housing several essential services nearby:

  • A pharmacy and laboratory for blood tests are located at Bowyer Block C, Level 1.
  • Radiography services, open on weekdays until 5 PM, provide diagnostic imaging support.

Such facilities streamline the process, allowing patients to access everything they need without leaving the premises.

Making Appointments

Scheduling or modifying appointments at DMC is simple and flexible. Patients can:

  • Use the online appointment system.
  • Access the HealthBuddy app for mobile convenience.
  • Call the hotline at (65) 6321 4377 for personalised assistance.

These options ensure that booking or rescheduling appointments is hassle-free.

Getting There

Located at 17 Third Hospital Avenue, Singapore 168752, the DMC is adjacent to the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). Whether you’re travelling by public transport or driving, the centre is easily accessible:

By Public Transport

  • MRT: Take the NEL or EWL lines to Outram Park MRT Station. From there, a shuttle service connects directly to DMC.

By Car

  • Parking options include National Cancer Centre Singapore, Outram Community Hospital, and McAlister Car Park H. Shuttle services and link bridges provide seamless connections to DMC.

Understanding Diabetes

Diabetes is a lifelong condition where the body either produces insufficient insulin or cannot use it effectively. Insulin is crucial for converting glucose into energy. When this process is disrupted, glucose builds up in the blood, leading to high blood sugar levels.

The DMC offers programs like Dose Adjustment for Normal Eating (DAFNE) and Medical Nutrition Therapy for Diabetes Mellitus to empower patients in managing their condition effectively.

  • Saturday: 8 AM to 12:30 PM (for peritoneal dialysis).
  • Sunday and Public Holidays: Closed.

Why Choose the DMC?

The Diabetes and Metabolism Centre is more than a medical facility—it’s a support system for patients managing chronic conditions. By integrating expert care, education, and essential services in one location, the DMC aims to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.

If you or your loved ones are managing diabetes or other metabolic conditions, consider visiting the DMC for comprehensive and compassionate care.
