4-Year-Old And 2-Year-Old Among New Community Cases Infected With COVID-19

One toddler and a 4-year-old among new community cases in Singapore.

Singapore has reported 15 new Covid-19 community cases and among these are two very young children. The two new cases found include a 4-year-old student from My First Skool and a 2-year-old student from Carpe Diem.

The new community cases were announced by the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Tuesday (1 June) in an official news release.

A 2-year-old girl who attends Carpe Diem at 2 Ang Mio Ko Drive, is one of the newest community cases announced by MOH. She was last at school on 14 May, and then was placed under quarantine on 24 May.

The toddler is said to be a family member of three other positive cases.

On 30 May, she was tested during quarantine where her test results came back negative. While she was asymptomatic, she was tested again on 31 May, and this time her results showed that she was indeed positive for Covid-19.

MOH says the girl’s serology test results also came back positive.

Another girl aged 4 years tested positive for Covid-19. She is a student from My First Skool at 332B Anchorvale Link, and was last at school on 12 May.

The young girl is a family member and household contact of two other positive cases.

According to MOH, she developed a cough on 26 May and a fever the next day. She sought medical treatment at a GP clinic on 28 May.

Being in close contact with another community case, the girl was placed under quarantine on 30 May, then was tested for Covid-19 on the same day. The following day, her test results came back positive.

Her serology test is still pending as of the moment.

Both these cases have once again highlighted the need to vaccinate younger children in Singapore. And while parents are still waiting for a green signal for vaccinating children under the age of 12; those above it, can already book their jabs now.

During his live address on Monday (31 May), Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced that children aged 12 years old and above may start booking for vaccination starting from 1 June. As mentioned, Covid vaccines in toddlers and younger kids have not been given the green light yet.

Students can book their vaccination appointments via the National Appointment System for vaccinations. To start the process, children or their parents and guardians can expect to receive an SMS with a unique link to their appointments at any vaccination centre.

Four dedicated MOE vaccination centres have been set up at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College campuses in Ang Mo Kio, Choa Chu Kang and Simei as well as at the Raffles City Convention Centre.
