Coronavirus: More Discharged Cases Than Infection Reported on Friday

[Updated] MOH says the lower number of cases was partly due to fewer swabs being conducted.

[UPDATE: 10.29PM]

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed an additional 261 cases of Covid-19 infection in Singapore on Friday (June 5),with 250 cases being Work Permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories. MOH says the lower number of cases today is partly due to fewer swabs being conducted.

There are 11 community cases – six are Singaporeans/Permanent Residents, and five are Work Permit holders.

Among the six Singaporeans/Permanent Residents, five are Singaporeans linked to previously confirmed cases, and had already been placed on quarantine. One is a Permanent Resident who stays at Cassia @ Penjuru dormitory, and was proactively tested as part of MOH’s efforts to clear the dormitories.

Among the five Work Permit holders, four had been picked up as a result of proactive screening. Of these, three were tested before they are due to start work in essential services, and one was tested as part of the screening of migrant workers residing at shophouses located at Balestier Road, due to their proximity to another cluster in the same area. Epidemiological investigations are ongoing for the remaining case.

As there have been no more cases linked to Acacia Home (30 Admiralty Street) for the past two incubation periods of 28 days, the cluster has now been closed.

One location — Japanese Food Street at Jurong Point — among a list of public places that were visited by cases in the community during the infectious period was removed from the list today.

305 more cases have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.

Of the 307 cases who are still in hospital, most are in stable condition or improving. Four are in critical condition in the intensive care unit, while 12,643 cases who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

This brings the total number of cases to 37,183, with 24,209 patients discharged and 24 deaths.
