Embark on Your Journey to Champion Change with Barbie®!

Barbie® has been an advocate for changemakers big and small - believing that everyone has the potential to be a champion for change and make a positive difference in the world.

For over 60 years, Barbie® has been a champion for female empowerment for many young girls across the globe. In line with their slogan – ‘You Can Be Anything’, Barbie® kicks off the ‘You Can Be A Champion For Change’ Competition 2022 in Southeast Asia (SEA) to empower young Singaporean girls to step up and effect change within their communities. From now till 15 May – the contest calls for aspiring young female changemakers aged between 5 to 12 years old to share how they plan to contribute to making the world a better place on paper.

As a brand, Barbie® has been an advocate for changemakers big and small – believing that everyone has the potential to be a champion for change and make a positive difference in the world. They encourage girls to view the world not as it is but as it could be. This year, Barbie® aims to give these passionate young individuals a platform to shine and an opportunity to learn from renowned philanthropists and advocates for social issues across SEA.

This competition will further establish Barbie’s® efforts and contributions to inspire more girls to be involved in making a beneficial change in the world.

Take part in the Barbie® ‘You Can Be A Champion For Change’ Competition to win exciting prizes!

Encapsulating the spirit of confidence and leadership, the Barbie® ‘You Can Be A Champion For Change’ Competition motivates young girls to showcase their creativity by expressing ideas freely about what an ideal community looks like to them. Co-Founder of The Social Co Singapore, Rebekah Lin, together with other judges will select the top 10 participating entries.

Besides being part of the judging panel in Singapore, Rebekah Lin will also take on the role of a mentor to the six SEA winners of the competition. Participants are required to submit a competition entry detailing their thoughts on how they wish to improve their community. From spotlighting environmental issues, or caring for stray animals, to volunteering with friends and family to help the less fortunate – no idea is ever too big or too small to achieve!

“The aim of the Barbie “You Can Be a Champion for Change” campaign aligns perfectly with the work we do at The Social Co. I am excited to be part of this momentous movement in uplifting young girls to be an advocate for causes they are passionate about.”

“We all have an important part to play in bettering our community and I hope to be able to guide the next generation of leaders to unleash their potential and champion change,” says Rebekah Lin.

The top 10 selected local entries will be invited to share their original ideas at a virtual presentation organised by Mattel. Thereafter, the six finalists from SEA will stand a chance to meet the various SEA Changemakers (mentors) for an exclusive mentorship opportunity!

The winner will also stand to win up to S$500 worth of Barbie® merchandise and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with Rebekah Lin, who will be showing the winner what an “a day-in-a-life” of working in a non-profit organisation is like.

The ‘You Can Be A Champion For Change’ competition is a coordinated effort by Mattel SEA and will be held in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, The Philippines and Vietnam. Six winners – one from each participating country will have a once-in-a-lifetime virtual mentorship opportunity with changemakers from across the region. These mentors include Butet Manurung from Indonesia and Princess Zatashah from Malaysia.

The Barbie® ‘You Can Be A Champion For Change’ Competition 2022 is open to participants aged between 5 to 12 years old. To take part, participants will need to purchase any Barbie® merchandise (min. S$15) available at all Toys ‘R’ Us stores, selected departmental stores, Mattel Official Shopee Mall or Lazada Mall websites to receive a valid competition entry.

Contest entries can be submitted through the QR Code provided in the contest template and should be accompanied by a snapshot of the receipt for the merchandise purchased. Submissions will close on 15 May 2022, 11:59 pm. Terms and conditions apply.
