It’s been over a month since celebrity mum Sheila Sim gave birth to her first child, Layla. In a recent Instagram post on 26 October, the first-time mum shared that she was finally able to step out of the house, and “breathe the air outside” after managing to squeeze a brief catch-up breakfast with friends.
“Hospital runs DOESN’T COUNT,” she quipped.
Turns out, Sim has been spending most of her time at home with her baby whom she chose to exclusively breastfeed.

“It’s my decision to choose the journey of exclusive latching for my breastfeeding journey,” the 36-year-old recently shared on Instagram, and explained that her little one is “stuck to [her] all-day”.
“On most days, Layla is like a magnet. When I put her down, she’d cry or wake up very quickly from her nap,” she adds.
Fraught with challenges, especially on tougher days, Sheila shares that she questions if she had made the right decision in exclusively latching Layla. Sheila admits that she would have “more freedom” and “a lot more rest” if she had chosen to bottle feed Layla instead.
“I know that I have the option of bottle feeding or formula feeding, and it’s not like one is better than the other, but latching is my ultimate decision,” wrote Sheila.
Acknowledging that every choice “comes with its own set of pros and cons”, Sheila says she reminds herself of her decision when the going gets rough.
“So on days where it gets overwhelming, I remind myself that I CHOSE THIS,” she adds. Apart from how that has helped her to pull through difficult times, Sheila says that it also has an aspect of keeping one grounded.

According to Sheila, this reminder can extend to various aspects in life, whether it is breastfeeding, the choice of partner to the choice of work among others.
“When you choose something, it means that you were given the free will to select other options, yet you decide on this and accept all the consequences and responsibilities that come with it,” she highlights.
Just like how this reminder has helped her through difficult times, Sheila hopes that it will be able to help out mums who are going through similar experiences as well.
