Foods that cause stomach bloating during pregnancy

  • Apple: Although apples have digestive properties, they contain a substance called pectin, which is a carbohydrate compound in the form of fiber or dietary fiber that is not digested by the enzymes in the body’s digestive system. Apples contain about 0.78% of this substance, which is why sometimes when mothers eat apples they feel a lot of gas in their stomachs.
  • Cabbage: Pregnant women who already have a feeling of bloating should avoid cabbage. This is because cabbage is a vegetable that makes pregnant women more bloated. It slows down digestion and causes heartburn.
  • Beans: Beans are one of the most gassy foods. You’ve probably heard that eating beans makes your farts smell bad. In fact, beans contain a sugar called raffinose, which is a gas-producing sugar. It also slows down digestion. If you want to eat them, it’s best to rinse them thoroughly before eating.
  • Starches: Starches that cause a lot of gas include those found in potatoes, corn, and wheat, except rice.
  • Carbonated beverages: Carbonated drinks, sodas, and high-sugar fruit juices.
  • Processed foods: Snacks, cereals, salad dressings. These foods contain a variety of sugary ingredients, such as fructose and lactose, which can contribute to gas.
  • Fried foods:  Fried foods, greasy foods, or spicy foods are another type of food that can cause bloating in pregnant women.

Some anti-flatulence medications can be used during pregnancy, but you should always consult your doctor or pharmacist before using any medication for the safety of the mother and the fetus. For oral medications to help with gas and digestion, include:

Tablets: air-x, Antasil,

 Liquid medicine: Alummilk,

 Herbal medicine: Turmeric

However, even though these groups of drugs are safe, it is not recommended for pregnant women to buy and take them by themselves. You should receive a prescription from an obstetrician first in order to take the right type of drug in the right amount for your symptoms.
