Mothers in Singapore, take heart!
According to the 2015 State of the World’s Mothers report from Save the Children, our nation is ranked top within Asia, and looking good at #14 on the world map.
Being #1 in Asia did not come easy – Save the Children looked at 179 countries and worked on data based on maternal health, children’s wellbeing, educational, economic and political statuses to determine how mothers and children fared best and where they faced struggles.
Singapore has a low maternal death rate of one in every 13,900, and also low under-5 mortality rate of 2.8 per thousand live births – thanks to the sanitation standards and quality of life here. For working mums, the Ministry of Manpower has a set of guidelines in place on maternity leave entitlements and benefits (even for fathers!), which makes Singapore a more pro-family nation as compared to recent years. With these arrangements in place, they helped make Singapore earn its placement as best Asian country for mothers.
