An armed robbery has been reported at Western Union branch located at Blk 301 Ubi Ave 1, today morning (1 August).
In a statement on Facebook, Singapore Police writes, “On 1 August 2017 at about 10.50am, the Police were alerted to a case of armed robbery at a Western Union branch located at Blk 301 Ubi Ave 1.
The man who was armed with a knife, forced a staff to hand over more than $2,000. The man then fled on foot.”
Thankfully, no injuries were reported and no one was inside the branch when the crime happened.
Police also gave some clues about the suspected criminal, “The suspect was wearing a white helmet, black jacket and dark-coloured long pants. Police investigations are ongoing.”
Public has also been urged to help the police with investigations, “Anyone with information is requested to call the Police Hotline at 1800-255-0000 or submit information online at www.police.gov.sg/iwitness. All information will be kept strictly confidential.”
Apparently, this is the second armed robbery in Singapore in two days. A 48-year-old man was earlier arrested on Monday for an armed robbery at a Shell petrol station at Upper Bukit Timah Road.
Mums and dads, if you ever find yourself in the middle of an armed robbery, here are some survival tips:
- Be calm : Make sure you don’t panic, and catch the robber’s attention for all the wrong reasons.
- Observe the robber if you can : Try to note the robber’s appearance without being obvious, or putting yourself in danger, especially if there are any noticeable scars or tattoos. These clues may later be useful for police.
- Don’t try to be a hero : Control the urge to take matters in your own hand. Even if the robber is unarmed, you could get hurt by intervening. It is usually best to be co-operative and not try to challenge the robber.
